G23 Boat Cover: Problems Towing at Highway Speeds

I just took delivery of my G23 on July 3rd. What a great boat! The problem I'm having is when I trailer the boat at highway speeds. There are two verticle openings in the cover where it attaches to the tower that are secured with Velcro. The Velcro closure quickly separates at highway speeds. I will be towing her from Orlando to NC in about 3 weeks and need a solution. I could tow her w/o the cover but then I wouldn't be able to place unsecured items (i.e. luggage, provisions, etc.) in her, and she'd be subjected to road dirt and grime, bugs, etc. I'm considering hiring a custom canvas shop to sew a sturdy zipper over the Velcro openings so I could just use the zipper to close the gap. Has anyone encountered the same problem, and if so, what have you done to address it?

Can you just get some of the fabric in the jaws and use something like this to hold the fabric together?

This is a common problem. Seen it happen on 3 G's..2 being mine. If you don't have the Z5 rack, then I'd recommend putting the tower down and then cover it. I haven't had any issues with this method.

Agreed. Tower down and cover on is the only way to tow the G23. It keeps the bugs off of the tower and reduces wind resistance.

I have heard there can be a lot of chaffing with the cover on. Does the tower being down

Thanks for the input all. I really like this Forum. Very helpful. The problem is, I do have the Z5 Bimini. I was going to remove the canvas from the Bimini before I towed it up to NC. Maybe I should just remove it altogether and throw it in the bed of my truck, put the tower down and then put the cover on. I'll have to measure the Bimini to make sure it will fit in the truck bed. If not, the other alternative is to use that fabric clip.

Found some at my local ACE hardware.look where they have the tarps and bungees. Lowes and HD should have them too.

I can pretty much guarantee you that it won't fit in your truck bed. I've seen one on the back of a F-250 and it was hanging off the sides by 4 inches. You could probably just set it in the main area of the boat.

I have used mine but only for short distant, you have me worried now, something that I thought of was the use of snaps, you can buy the tool at lowes or home depo, with snaps, very easy to use, I have added extra material to my cover I use on my boat ,to keep morning sun off the side. (different cover than travel) while on the boat lift, just another, solution.

I also hang some of these in my boat lift off the canopy cover so that when I get something wet I can hang it up to dry. It is nice that they have both the hook and the hole.
