Love the power turn video. My daughter just spent 4 hours going through an on line boater course to get an NC boat driver license. Learned how to tie nautical knots, learned about sail boat sails, nothing on how to drive a boat......correctly. I have a 200v, came from a very low direct drive. The go to neutral and wait is the way to go. So much more pleasant for everyone.

Here is another great technique. When the rider falls , accelerate to full throttle. Go about 50 yards and rapidly return to neatrul as you crank the wheel to the left. You should now be pointed towards your skier. Immediately accelerate to full throttle back to you skier.

Just do like everyone else says and freaking cut throttle all the way when rider falls then basically cut wheel either hard and spin her around inside her own wake. Everyone is happy !

We were on a long narrow lake a couple of weeks ago that doesn't get huge traffic most of the time but the wind was up a bit so the best part of the lake was the narrow part guarded by rock cliffs down near the ****. There was basically us and a brand new X star wakeboarding and very little traffic but whenever he had his kids in the water and they fell he gunned it and flipped back on them destroying that section of the lake for a couple of minutes at a time. A buddy of mine (durty_curt) was there when they picked it up and struck up a casual conversation with them and politely gave them some advice which they weren't having any of. He said that he was taught you get back to your rider as fast as you possibly can especially when they are kids just learning. We left it at that, but his kids were getting rocked by his wake and were flailing around trying to stay above water and not get tangled in the rope, didn't seem all that safe to me.
We ended up just staying between them and the **** doing small laps until they left.
If I have the time I back off about 80% and hold course until the wake calms then turn slightly left and then back right and proceed just above a no wake speed back to the rider. Otherwise if I have to turn back quickly on my own wake due to high traffic and poor visibility I have to cut the throttle all the way and cut the wheel most of the way away from the direction I want to turn, then just before I come off a plane cut it all the way back the way I want to turn then get on part throttle to complete the turn quickly. Then just before I cross my own roller I have to accelerate just enough to raise the bow to glide through then I can back down to no wake as soon as it is safe before I approach the rider and it keeps my passengers dry and my rope right alongside.
Sometimes this has to be a turn to the left if there isn't enough room in a tight canyon or the rider fell in a blind spot and I need to make sure traffic coming around a corner can see us. If I throw a giant power turn then it leaves a big enough gap that watercraft approaching at high speed have the choice of going to my riders side of me, either between us or just outside my rider. I want to be inline with the rider so no matter what side they choose it takes them away from the rider and to make the turn fast enough that the distance is short enough nobody cuts in between. I try and let everyone who sits up front know in advance if I have to choose between getting them wet or driving aggressively around the rope or rider in the water they are getting wet so they might want to leave any electronic devices in a safe zone in the main cabin.

I always just do a slow figure 8 when a rider falls. Just put e boat in neutral and wait for your rollers to pass by the boat. Then turn to the left and approach the rider so he is on the right side of the boat. This is so you can see them at all times. Go around them and pickem up for their next run.

Water Coming Over The Bow on my New 2012 Air Nautique 200 - Need Suggestions...

I love the folks that bat turn around and trash their own water. Those are the same folks that wrap their ropes around their elbows too !!!
The key is waiting for the back to boat to lift the IDLING back to the skier.
I don't power turn ever but I am one of those idiots that wraps my rope around my elbow. Do you mind sharing how else I store our rope ? I've heard this comment a few times but didn't know any other way especially when we're in a hurryCurrent Correct Craft Boat

I do the same as the majority here, cut the throttle, let the wake go past and idle back to the fallen rider. Not only does this keep the water calmer, it also gives the rider a bit of a chance to rest up.
