Hello all, Moving from misc. IO's to possibly a 95 with the GT-40 495 hrs. What flaws should I look for with this boat ? And is $16,800 fair. The boat visually is very clean and appears to be well taken care of. Thanks for any input.

I had one...
I had a 1995...
For skiing it's pretty good but not nearly as good as the TSC hulls that arrived in 1997 with the humpback. With a 3 blade 14X16 it holds a solid 42mph for footing with the GT-40 motor. For boarding I ran 500lbs behind the motor and 200 under the bow to produce a clean sharp midsize wake.
I always hated the sloped transom from a practicality standpoint, it's a back killer when putting boards on and it's difficult to keep boards and skis from scratching it up. For some reason the steering on these is much stiffer than the 1993 and older boats. The boat had a very slight tendency to veer one direction or the other. The GT-40 motor was probably the best thing about the boat however in 1995 the fuel map brought it down to an too slow, it had a delay around 1200rpm so I found myself pulling it all the way into neutral when I came off a plane. The center dash cooler is a great storage space. I prefer the rear seat over the 1996+ seats. It had a big motor box as 1995 was the last year with the muffler behind the motor instead of under the floor. With a moderate load it will take a wave over the front and the back. It's a great looking hull.

RE: I had one...
Oh yeah the price...
Mine was in showroom condition, 650 hours, wakeboard tower, and great tunes ($2000 worth). Sold in November for $16,700 probably could have pulled a little more this time of year.

I was thinking $16,800 might be kinda high. Not unreasonable,
but I have seem them for a little less. Depends upon condition,
maintenance, add-ons, single or tandem trailer, and how tough
these boats are to find in your area. I've seen a couple of
97 and 98s in our area in that price range without tower or
special stereo.

I bought my 95 mid last summer. paid $17000. It was top dollar but the hull, interior and trailer were in like new condition. I think price has a "location" factor to it. I gotta disagree w/ Mikeski about the sloped back end. I always liked it (had a 93 before the 95) and looked for it when replacing my 93. It is a little harder to climb over but not a deal breaker for me...(personal opinion only...looks over practicality i guess) As far as my experience w/ the wake... Unless you are an experienced skier skiing a course shortline you probably wont notice a difference in a 90-96 hull to the tsc. For me the 95 is better for wake boarding with a couple fat sacs than the tsc is. I put a carbed pro boss motor in mine and it holds 47mph w/ multiple barefooters using an oj 3 blade or acme 4 blade. The tbi motor only did about 42mph. I have a lot of fun in and behind my boat.

Hey Darrel:
Your old '93 is floatable again. Just need to finish up the gelcoat work and put the interior and running gear back in. I should be skiing behind her in late June or so. So, I have been trying forever to figure out the HP rating of the TBI engine. Best range I have been able to come up with is 275-310. Do you know? Regardless, I bet the low end torque is good, just not a lot of top end...which I do not need anyway.

I think the TBI was the PCM pro boss engine. If so, that engine was
rated for 285 HP. The carburated engine was rated 240 HP. I don't
think they offered the GT 40 in 93. That is 310 HP.

Thanks for the feedback. It seems boats around here are harder to find compared to Southern states and what is here seems a bit more expensive. I did find a '98 196 GT-40 with a cc tower matching Eagle trailer and new custom canvas for 22,245 today ?? It is from a well known dealer that sold the boat new. It is a very clean nice looking boat.

BKH:
I think you might be correct on the HP rating. PCM calls the '95 TBI engine in my boat "Pro Ski" I think Darrel's '93 carbed "pro boss" engine is probably the 310 HP engine (or 330HP). Not sure, just guessing.

David, Thats great news, sounds like you are actually ahead of schedule. Im not sure about the HP on that TBI Pro Ski motor. The 1995 brochure didnt print HP figures as they had in the past, they used Waterski mags test results...max mph, distance to 36mph... You're right plenty of low end torque and about 42-43 max at 4500 rpm WOT. that was in the 95 hull, i never started the tbi in the 93 hull, as you kno, but they should be about the same. If you contact PCM they should be able to give you correct HP, "gun to my head"...id guess 260-275. The swamped 93 motor is still runnin strong in my new boat!! The worse part is all i can do now is be the boat driver for everyone else. Hope to start surfing again by next month.
