Malibu (Titan) tower on a CC. Sacrelidge?

If they are the same cost, would you put a Titan Series III tower on your '95CC or the FCT?

The Titan Series III (new this year) only available through Malibu dealerships. It has a niiiice high polish finish and an updated swept-back design.

Here is a link to a picture of it: http://www.wakesiderides.com/rides/i...age=out&id=875

I'm told the FCT causes spidercracks in the hull because the lack of hem joints to absorb the twisting. Have any of you seen this?

Thanks in advance for the help!

FCT. To me it's just a look thing, and I like the industrial look of the FCT. The way it folds is nice too and I do like the Flight Clips, they keep the boards flat to the tower. I guess it's kind of a preference thing. My buddy had a Wakeair tower on his 92' sport. It looked nice and was very rigid, a well built tower. It had the Heim joints, ball in loop kind, and they were nice and easy to deal with, but they can't eliminate the stress at the base of the legs, the heim joints mostly help with alignment issues if you have separate baseplates. No matter what, you will stress the plates, there is no magic about it. Torsion will be transfered to the bolts as lateral force no matter what.

I think the spider cracks in the gelcoat can happen on any tower. You definately need a good install with backer plates. Rounding the gelcoat around the thru-holes is key for eliminating the spidercracks. The gave us a rounded abrasive tip to this on the wakeair tower install. We beat on it for two years and never a crack did appear. I thought it might because the backer plates were on a reinforcement rib and some of them were not sitting flat, but we never had an issue.

The factory installed FCT on our SAN has no cracks at all, it's stiff. I don't think you will be dissapointed either way, just make sure the install is done well and you will have no regrets.

I would never put a malibu tower on my CC. That tower doesn't look much different then the Monster tower that you can get for around $1200.
Ummm, I\'ll take the REAL 210 please. Thanks.

        goodfoot00,
I have zero cracks in my gelcoat with my Titan I.................I think it's all just personal preference. I think I would choose (for me) BOSS, Titan II, or FCT. You won't go wrong with whatever brand you choose!

Someone who was interning at Malibu said that the TitanIII flexes like crazy. the TitanI's are the best, followed by the TitanII's. I'd go for the FCT based on that alone.
          How about \"Chales\"?

You can get the Titan I/II from www.wakeside.com, not sure about the III's. I think they are all nice towers. I prefer the looks of the Titan a little more then my FCT but I like the FCT better from a functional standpoint.

Thanks for all the info guys, this really helps. I think I'm going to stick with the good 'ol FCT. Has anyone seen the New Dimension's FCT knockoff? Heard anything good or bad?

              Here's the link: http://www.wakeside.com/page/W/PROD/..._control_tower

They are couple of hundred cheaper than the OEM.

Thanks again for all the help!

How much have you been quoted for the FCT?? I don't think it should be anymore then that. That price seems pretty high for a knock off. I think you should be able to get a FCT for about $2k.

Also that knock-off just does not have the same proportions as a real FCT. The top cross bars are just way too short, and the whole thing looks a little off.

                  IMHO

I have the new dimension tower on my boat. The biggest factor for me in deciding was that cc didn't offer a FCT for my year boat. The new dimension looks very close to the fct, and is well built and very nicely finished. I just put it on this winter, so I have only used it for a month or so, but I'm extremely happy with it.

I put a Titan 1 on my 93 this year. I was going to put a Monster on it, but they raised their price with in $100, so I went with a for a more unique look. I wasn't sure how it would turn out, as wake_fun's SS was the only CC that i'd seen with one, but it turned out great, I love the look and does not flex or rattle. Like the look of bradb's and other FCT's but spent 1700 on the tower and 2 racks. The only thing I didn't like it how far back on the gunnel it mounted. But the tow point ended up w/i inches of the pylon. I couldn't believe the difference between a tower and pylon, the pull is so much better.

Saw a FCT on eBay, ends in 21 hours, no reserve, currently at $500.

Thanks to MHayes for spotting the FCT on Ebay yesterday. I had been waiting for my local CC dealer 6 mo. for a "damaged in transit" FCT that i could cut / bend and reweld for my 95 SN. I was next on his list and he was going to sell it for about $500, but they never kno when they will ever get one. Well, now i have one. I was the winning bidder for the tower. It came off a SN so no tweeking necc. I really didnt want to put anything but the real deal on my boat. Thanks again to MHayes for the headsup!
