Major PLANETNAUTIQUE Site Software Upgrade Coming This Winter

I am planning for a major upgrade to the PLANETNAUTIQUE site software this winter, and I would like to hear about functionality and features that you are interested in seeing as part of this upgrade.

The upgrade will be based on the vBulletin 5 Connect platform (the next major version of vBulletin), but I want to wait for the off-season in the US and also for a couple of key features to be offered in this version before I move forward with it. We are currently running vBulletin 4. vBulletin 5 Connect offers TONS more features and the ability to do some pretty cool things. One of the main things I want to accomplish is to adapt the site so that it is seamless from a mobile perspective. Mobile functionality is the future, and many of us are already heavy users of products like Tapatalk or ForumRunner, which allow direct connectivity with PN via mobile devices already. These apps are great, but I have a stronger mobile vision in mind, including our own mobile app among other things.

If there are features that you have seen elsewhere that you think would be great to have on this site, please post about them here. Even if you just have an idea for something that you think would be cool, post it here and I will see if we can make it happen!

I want this site to be great, and constant innovation is key. Please post your thoughts here!

Agreed on the like functionality.

One thing too keep is the classifieds as a thread and not an add-on (don't do what wakeworld did...)

My only other comment is don't go crazy with updates. This place is good because of the user content and community, no need to make it too flashy and blingy IMHO.

How about push notifications for mac and iOS. (PM's, post's on participated threads, etc.) What I get from Tapatalk is very sparatic. Also maybe the ability to sync devices (iCloud like) so if I read a thread on my phone, it shows as being read on computer.

I know this is cheesy but I miss the selection of emoticons from previous versions. And agree to not go too far with modifications. I'm using tapatalk and it's okay but would like to see where a member is from without having to change screens. Helps put some comments in perspective.

And one feature that was lost with the last upgrade is one click to "new posts".

yeah, but on the main page instead of (or in addition to) the forums page. Love the functionality of it, just have to dig a little and when networks are bogged down you start counting clicks.

Jeff, I agree with this statement. And while a strong mobile app is nice, I would like the site to work well, with full functionality, on a mobile device (tablet or phone) without an app. It should support not only the built in browsers, but other popular mobile browsers, such as Firefox and Opera.

Also not to be too nerdy, but push notifications on certain threads would be awesome. Like if I could be alerted to new posts in boats or gear for sale.

Getting notifications when people respond to your posts would be helpful and the ability to mark / store useful posts around tips and tricks.
