What is Wrong with People?

Here is the story:

I have my old house for sale and am keeping the boat in the garage until is sells. Right now I have an offer and they did the home inspection Tuesday, as things are progressing, I decided to move some of the boat stuff from that garage to my storage facility (where the boat will stay after closing). Now the details, there is a platform (maybe 6.5 feet high) that supports the hot water tank, main HVAC unit and I store some of my extra vests and water toys there as it is right next to the boat and can be reached from onboard. Anyway, I went over today and noticed that there was nothing on the platform which got my attention. It looks like the inspector climbed on my boat to access this platform (there is a ladder leading against the wall next to the platform), and moved all of the stuff to inside the boat! It doesn't look like there was any damage other than footprints on the boat (I didn't have time to look closely) but talk about disrespectful! I am ticked. Right now my plan is to get the inspectors name and, after closing, give him a call to let him know that what he did was not acceptable.

OK, tell me it is only footprints, he didn't know that many of us take great care of our equipment and didn't think it would be a problem...basically, talk me down.

Dude might have been lazy or disrespectful. But I would blow it off. I get your point but I would let it go, and put it in the people sure are interesting/odd category.

from experience 95% of the population would do the something. most people really don't care for things as most of us do on this board. I've come to accept it instead of getting ticked off. i literally do things in anticipation of a goofball trying to do something dumb

Its just a boat!!! Just joking. Most people don't have a clue about how passionate Nautique owners are about them. Blow it off. Not damaged not need to make it a big deal.

Id say it was you that was disrespectful. You knew the inspector was coming and part of the inspection is to check the water heater and HVAC systems . It was you that was too lazy to go to the house and move your valuables out of harms way. I would keep my mouth shut and be thankful that the house is sold nothing was damaged.

2 potential scenarios to help you off the ledge:

1. The inspector thinks, "seller ought not forget this stuff...I'll put it in his boat so it will all be together".

2. The inspector thinks, "seller should know this foam in the pfd shouldn't be near an ignition source...I'll move it so it's safe".

Whatever. Get on with it.

Or, he bought into all the class warfare going on, hates "rich" people, and thought he would stick to this "rich" person in a limited, passive - aggressive way. Either way, just hope your house sells, clean your boat, and move on. Just don't ever hire the same inspector for any time you look to buy.

Another possible interpretation is that it was the easiest way to access for him. Most newbies who get on my boat don't know to take their shoes off until I tell them. This guy might never have been on a boat that wasn't made of aluminum.

I'm am better now, going over today to clean it up and move on.

Hunter, you do have a point about the fact I should have moved the stuff but I don't see that it excuses the inspectors actions.

I'm thinking the inspector might know something about codes, and that possibly that platform is for just that. The Main A/C and or water tank. As a fireman, I can tell you I have personally seen fires that most likely started from similar circumstances. Like HS said, the "ignition source" thing...
