I am looking for a boat lift for my 2005 SN. The lift will be set in a fresh water lake with a hard bottom (mostly rock, essentially no mud), and only changes in depth about 6" over the course of the summer. While the dock is on pilings, I do not intent to bolt/anchor anything part of the lift to the dock. I have 110 power at the dock if needed, although 12V is certainly an option. Any suggestions on a brand and a model?

Thanks to all for the replies. I am thinking of a hydraulic, cantilever lift versus a manual wheel, cable type of lift due to we plan to take the boat out several times a day and when we return, we want to raise the boat up rather than tie off and have the boat bounced around by wakes from boats going by. Anyone have any experience with Basta and/or Feighner hydraulic lifts? Thank you.

hey fjroa. i have a basta marine lift. have had it for 10 years with few problems. i had just a few inches of water when i put it in and had to dig the lake bottom down a bit to get it to fit. not sure if that's legal for any environmentalists out there...sorry. i had the arms upgraded through the years to stainless steel so i could drive on without bending them. but, i can lift my 5000 lb boat from lift dead bottom no problem. even with tanks full of water or people in boat. i love having the side decks on boat sides for washing down the boat. great lift!2013 G23 550 NSS

Thanks northwestwater for the feedback as well as the other 2 comments about Floe. This is a tough and expensive decision without seeing one of the lifts in operation. Many companies show how to assembly their lift and show the lift going up and down but typically a 3000 or 4000 pound boat is not on the lift.

X 3 on the Floe VSD. I went with the 7500#, 26' canopy (with extensions) and 24V with remote. I tell everyone, "I could always switch boats, but there's no way in H*ll I would ever get a different lift"

I think it depends on your budget. I didn't have much of a budget and managed to find a used 4000# cantilever Shoremaster with a manual wheel. I changed out some of the hardware with new bolts and dropped it in. It does a great job and the hand wheel isn't that big a deal. During the day I only lift it up enough to get most of the boat out of the water, but just barely. At night, I will pull it out a bit more. When I am gone during the week I get it all the way up, which does take a bit of extra time, but I only do that on Sunday afternoon and then when I am back on Friday.
So, I was a bit cheap, but it works great and it is very simple and easy for me to fix if needed as there are no electric or hydraulic parts to worry about. I don't have power down at the dock, so that played into it too.
Your call. I will admit, that if money were no object, I would go with a nicer lift with power and remote, but for now, I would rather spend the money on other things than the lift.

The lift can be moved as water depths change. It is heavy and takes four strong men to move, or you can hook your boat up to it and drag it.
I have had few problems with the lift over the 8-years. However, recently the vinyl canopy has started to fall apart and needs to be replaced. Also, have had to replace the battery a few times.
