These are getting out of hand. Sometimes we may be the only boat in the cove. What happens then?Current Correct Craft Boat

Juuuust putting this out there.
G is the boat everyone loves to hate. Seems to be folks join to post that their prop snapped off then they disappear. Contribute NOTHING to the thread. So then they can go back over to Team Talk or whereever and tell folks to Google it, so then its proof!! G props snapping everywhere.

Good observation Ryan. 1 post then gone seems fishy to me too. If their prop really snapped off, I feel for them, and threads like these can be useful to bring issues to the attention of the factory. Bogus claims from post and dash members don't help anyone.'08 196LE (previous)

Yeah, I agree. We'll see if he comes back and posts a picture. I agree it is reasonable for them to do so and for us to ask, especially on this issue
Many people do come back and post pictures. But frankly people don't bother to post pictures on some many things that they could easily. i.e. "g23 not lining up properly with bow stop roller on trailer"....

LOL, not sure what is funnier, the title of the thread, did a prop "fall off" or did a shaft break??
Or the thought of a conspiracy against G' Boats, CC has acknowledged via a service bulletin that a supplier had a MFR defect which could result in shaft failure, as a result it certainly does not surprise me to see posts regarding the same.
Of course it is the internet, so can you really believe everything you read, lol?
Couple mentions of concern about the possibility of a hazard for anyone who happens to be behind the boat when a failure occurs, highly unlikely the broken piece of shaft with a prop attached would do anything but go pretty much straight to the bottom much less get past the rudder or surf pipe and then go anywhere but straight down.
Bummer for those who have had failures, lost boating time and being towed in is no fun.

Quinner, you live in a long-line dream land if you dont think troll posts dont go on industry wide. Happens between boats, and all sorts of stuff... like the Exile, Earmark, Wetsounds tri-fecta and all the spin offs that takes comes to mind first.
And yep there is a service bulletin, supposedly not releaseable to customers, for dealers only.
So if you know so much, enlighten us and post it up?2019 G23 450

I have not seen the service bulletin but last weekend I heard a new theory on this. It was a bad set of props that did not fit correctly on the shaft. Each time the boat was shifted to forward or reverse it would "ding" or slip on the shaft and weaken it. Eventually the weakened shaft would start vibrating until it would snap.2013 G23 450 with NSS (175hrs) and still have the original prop

If anyone would like to send me their broken shaft I would gladly inspect for an inclusions. These failures seem to be occuring in the same spot, therefore drastically reducing the likelyhood of a material issue. It could be a machining error, or poor prop installation. This would constitute "bad batch" but I haven't heard or seen anything that could separate one bad 1 1/8" shaft from a good one. Either way, a larger diameter shaft machined down to accept the 1 1/8" props will not help.
TRBenj indicates the log does not need to be changed to accept the larger shaft through the hull. That is a huge +. Attempt to get the larger shaft swapped in, but before that I'd remove the prop and inspect for physical damage, then lap the prop back on. This might buy you some time, or fix the issue completely, or nothing at all but certainly won't hurt.Last edited by Hollywood; 01-14-2015, 01:25 PM.
