So, the boat is a 2017 G23. 30 hours on it. We have never hit anything and had no issues with prop or shaft. I check it as part of my "pre flight" before we go. Today, after hitting a few waves off another G23 I heard the engine rev as we hit the crest of the wave and as we came down on the back side of the wave the boat stopped producing thrust. We came to a stop with the power in neutral and let the boat settle a bit. Tried giving it thrust again again forward and back and nothing. At first I thought I maybe broke the sheer pin off. I shut off the boat and jumped in to find no prop on the boat. After getting a tow back to the trailer and getting it out of water I found the entire shaft have broke but in a clean break. No scratches or damage to anything else including rudder. The shaft just flat out broke off. The dealer rep met me at the ramp and looked it and thinks it looks like a bad shaft. 30 hours on boat and we have only taken it to Lake Austin and Travis. Today we were in Cypress Cove and were at a depth of around 80 feet. They think it will be covered by Nautique (hopefully so). Has anyone else ever seen something like this? Could it have broken from hitting some waves from another boat hard? I cannot imagine in all the year I have been on a boat that hitting a wave hard would break off a shaft and if we hit something in the water I should leave damage on the rudder or somewhere else...Nope, nothing.
Thanks ahead of time.
