did it shear at a point that is intended to be a designed break point? Just curious. Love to see pic of the rest of your boat. my new G25 has same hull color (haven't taken delivery yet but it's at my dealer).

That is a good question, I do not know but I will ask the sales person, he is pretty good when it comes to knowledge about this stuff.

I will say that the boat is really a great design and is well built, totally love it, shaft issue or not, I love the boat and the service from my dealership is legitimate, I am sure they will get the shaft issue ironed out, I am not worried.
I did have a moment of Holy Sh*T - where is my prop? I just did not expect to see the shaft and prop gone when I lifted the boat.

The duck weed or seaweed is from when the towing company towed me for 10 miles, and got wrapped around the shaft area when they were towing the boat in shallow water

Nice looking G, I hope they get you fixed up and back on the water soon. The fact that they came to check your boat before it broke tells me that they must have traced this issue back to a specific batch of drive shafts that are suspected to be the problem. Hopefully they can get the rest of them out of service before any more of these fail.

Just out of curiosity what were you doing and how fast were you going when it broke? Ballasted and pulling a rider?

Somebody asked about the shaft size, I believe all CC V-drives get the 1 1/8" shaft and that has been the case since the 90s. Direct drives used to get the 1" shaft and I think they still do. Please correct me if I am wrong on that.

Sorry to hear that it happened... our dealer hasn't contacted us yet (lion90 or I). Will ask when I see him.

yes, it just sheared off going about 30 mph, middle of lake, the sound when the shaft let loose was not that loud, it was loud enough that I knew something was wrong but it didnt make the sound like I have experienced on a direct hit with damaging the prop at cruising speed.

When you state you ballest levels are inaccurate, can you explain more in detail what you mean,

Here is an update for those that are interested and own a G series boat.

My G25 is the third G Series boat that has had a failure from the local dealership so far, I am not sure how many G series boats they have sold. Each boat experienced a shaft failure exactly as mine, each failure in the exact same place.

Unfortunately I have damage in the hull area and it will require body work and a new gel coat. 2 weeks

I had a few questions and it was explained a shaft is never designed to fail this way, in the event the prop or shaft has a direct impact, the shaft is really not designed or engineered to break, the prop is designed to take the blunt of the hit, and in the event its of a major impact where the shaft is involved, the prop and shaft and rudder usually are all damaged, bent, and would need replacement but the shaft should never break in this fashion.

The new shaft thickness they are sending out will be different - and the thickness that extends from the shaft housing that extends from the back of the hull extends downward to the prop will be thicker than what came with the boat.

All of the Dealers are aware of this issue on the G series, so if you own one, get it replaced if you can. The only issue that worries me a bit, is that my shaft was previously inspected for this exact problem and it passed the technical inspection. The thickness of my original shaft was measured to assure it met the thickness requirement and a replacement was not issued. They are inspecting these and I suppose it is possible that they didn't measure the shaft correctly.

I hope that was the case but I personally believe there might be more to this than I know. just my opinion but it does not seem likely that my original shaft was not measured correctly. I suppose time will tell

seems like would be a major hassle to just replace the shaft with a larger size. I would think the would need a new strut and through hull fittings also. Guess they are leaning as they go on these big ole beasts! Still wouldn't stop me from buying one that is if I had $120k burning a hole in my pocket!

I sent this thread to Phil at Buxton and this was the first he has heard of this "all dealers are aware of this issue" thing.

I can guarantee you they would have been on the phone with all of their G owners if they knew....

Yep, very simply, from the very first time I took it out on the lake, the Link 2 level readings are big time off... As in reading 100% full when the tanks are empty... I fill and drain them and then they'll show full again. Very inaccurate, and its a PITA because the pumps shut off too early because the Link says they're full?

i need to get smart on the the G's use down in the ballast lockers to measure bag fill... And also on exactly how the link sometimes shuts the pumps off... Is it timers or the fill levels the Link THINKS they are at.
