Yeah....Jmulhollen...I see your point. I just kinda threw the 50% out there meaning more like ... "Yer takin' your chances".....LOL. AND....I never mentioned anything about the 550. As far as I know....It's ALL motors in mostly in the G23, lesser occurrences in the 21 and 25. Not just the 550. Look at this way. The salesman says...."You COULD lose your prop". To me...at this point....it is a 50% chance you will lose it...50% you won't. I was not trying to throw a bold number out there....more like the probability of it happening.

My local dealer has sold at least 100 G23’s in the last 5 years. They have had 1 shaft fail. I also believe the problem is now resolved for boats with mid 18 or later build dates.

I see what you mean now. Heard a comedian recently with an analogy... if someone asked “may I come to your house...I might be a crackhead” it would be a swift no for most people.

Yeah.....My dealer has two main locations....and I believe there's only been about 4 reported. Let's hope the mid 18's are the magic fix. Still have not seen any reports of any 19s breaking.....so that's a good sign.

I need to add myself to this running list. 2015 G21 with about 180 miles. I started to feel a vibration that quickly got worse before the prop sheared off at about 7MPH. No hull damage. The dealership was able to replace the shaft and prop on the lift under warranty.

Awe Sheet.... Nauti....I've got a '15 G21 with 170 hrs....I don't want to join the club. Glad they took care of it without hauling the boat in.

so did they mention anything during the fix around it being replaced with an updated part to prevent it from happening, etc?

The service department at the dealership said that they are using a different shaft now for replacement. I hope that is the case.

I am curious to know when the new shafts were first delivered to dealers? For example, is my replacement shaft a “new” version or the same as the defective one?

Well...I used to say I did not know anybody personally who had their prop fall off, but now I do. Thankfully, it is not me. But an acquaintance of mine had it happen this summer. I am on record as thinking it was a pretty rare event, and that I know a lot of G owners, but maybe it isn't that rare after all.

LOL...Tall. How can you say it's a "rare" event when there has been like 30.....maybe 40. To me...it would be a rare event if it was ONE...or maybe TWO at most..that have broken since 2013. Now that's rare. I think it's a good sign that this post sank down into the entries for a few weeks. No new reports!! But remember...it is football season. 32 Left...32 left...forward full....shaft break....awwwe sheet.

Are you saying 30-40 on this forum? From my experience, very few G-series owners are members on this forum.

It depends on your definition of rare. 1 or 2 events in the several thousands of G boats sold in the last 6 years would be exceedingly rare indeed, but again, depends on your definition. I am going to upgrade my estimate from this being a rare event to not uncommon, if that makes anyone happier.

Regardless, since Nauti won't give us even a ballpark percent, we just have to guess how rare, er, umm... not uncommon it actually is.

Again, I ask...point to any other mfgr having this problem?

Wish I had the instruction on how to replace from the tech that handled while the boat was on the lift. That guy has done more than one...

Mastercraft and Malibu dealers here in SoCal use images of the G23 snapped shafts to sell people away from Nautique. It is definitely a brand quality issue for Nautique to overcome, even from a simple marketing perspective.
