1999 Super Sport questions

I looked at a 99 SS today and had some questions:

Is this hull equivalent to the 99 Super Air? I have heard conflicting reports...

There were some tares and seam issues with the vinyl. I could live with it for a while but what am I looking at cost wise for replacement?

Anything in particular I should look out for in this model year boat?

Yes, the hull and deck are the same (SAN and Super Sport). The differences are the ballast, the tower, the pylon, graphics, etc.

In my opinion If you can find a Super Sport over a Super Air in those early earlys you will be better off. You can add a nice FCT Tower from New Dimensions and add a nice Jabsco Ballast system with bags instead of the hard tanks.

The vinyl will not be cheap to replace. I would contact Christines if you want factory matching stuff. I am guessing it would be in the $3-4000 range though

If you have the time and a bit of ability (do it yourself type), you can get a much better tower, sound system, and ballast system if you go super sport instead of a super air. If you pay to have the work done it may be a bit more expensive but still worth it in the end. You can always go to a local upholstery shop and get the vinyl done cheaper to save money, and put those savings into a better system (I chose ballast, although lots of people put it into the sound system). I think to redo everything (including carpet), my buddy paid 2500$ for his 99 SAN.

Thanks for all the comments. Especially the price estimates for vinyl.

I am also considering getting a mechanic to look it over to avoid a large mistake as this is would be my first boat purchase. I am reasonably comfortable working on a car but a boat is foreign to me.

Anyone know a good mechanic in the Raleigh NC area?

I am sure White Lake Marine would do a pre-purchase inspection for you if you can get the boat down to them. Not sure what they would charge, but it might be worth it to have them look over it.
