There has to be more to this story. That is a front mounted lift, so not sure I understand how rain would get the boat off sideways. that lift should have just re-sunk under the weight. It doesn't look bent, so this story isn't adding up for me.

Must have been quite some rain, or a boat that had led ballast built into it. That can't be for real if it was on a lift.
Boat filling with water should just sink the float lift, not tilt it. It had to be on the lift crooked initially, or a serious storm or wake caused the boat to roll slightly to one side and all the free water then rushed to that side making the boat slide off the lift. My guess at least.
Not saying it isn't real, but rain do not cause it. I have had a front mount lift. I hated it, but there is no way weight caused it. Bad positioning yes.
Like most hydro hoist lifts. When it starts to raise it is slow. once it touches the bottom of the boat it sits there, then all the sudden the boat shots up. I have had both front and side mount. I like the side mount better. I would guess ropes had something to do with this pulling the boat over/off the bunks.
Sadly, here on the Butler Chain in Orlando - we see a lot of boats left uncovered year round. It's understandable that they get used on the weekends, but we get a lot of rain here. Especially in the summer months. I can't understand how you spend $60-70k on a boat, and then just let it sit uncovered.
Perhaps I'm just OCD though. I cover my boat, in a fully enclosed 4 walled boat house. Even still, I'm not happy with the amount of bugs and nastiness that gets in.

Again all this is guessing.
They are saying the boat filled up with rain water and a cruiser came into the marina kicking a wake up. That would definitely cause this to happen if you had thousands of pounds of water in the boat.
