With a lot of 2013 model boats being put up for sale, I'm curious what the benefits are of trading in for a new boat every year. Is it for tax reasons? If trading in a 2013 for a 2014, I'm assuming the buyer only pays sales tax on the difference in price? A lot of these boats only have 50 hours or so on them, so plenty of warranty left. I'm just curious . I'm by no means trying to start a "you should pay cash for your toys" thread. Maybe trading in every year yields a better price from the dealer? If so, are the deals so good that you can offset the 1st year depreciation or possibly come out ahead?

Now you went and did it. 3 guys are going to claim they make money on the trade, but of course they can't reveal how, offer any proof, just really good nego and dealers, they say.
I don't understand your, "I'm curious what the benefits are" question. The rich guys love to have new boats. And I am glad they take the depreciation hit so I don't have to. It is all good.

There is a point when it's yours for life. Sometimes it's easier to get rid of when its still worth more but there is no one making money except the dealer and that's a maybe. When I was a 3 event skier it was important to keep getting the newer hull to practice on what you're towed behind in a tournament but just a regular boater? Not so much.
I've been dragging out a deal to upgrade from an 11 200 to a '13 210. Prolly doing it Friday but I need to know if its worth the $$.2013 SANTE 210

The promo program nautique has provides some of the 1 year old boats on the used market. Basically those who are part of the program get to buy a new boat at a cheaper price in exchange for agreeing to drive their boat in a bunch of tournaments during the year. The promo program allows the owner to sell for a "good price" which makes it a good deal for the buyer and the promo seller will make just enough to buy next years promo boat. There are usually promo 200's that pop up for sale on this site every fall.
I would have bought a promo ski nautique listed in our for sale forum a couple of years ago but I couldn't unload my current boat separately to make it happen.2018 Ski Nautique 200 TE, H6

I usually would never buy a new boat but my dealer offers a great trade and price. If it costs my 5-7 k to trade I usually would do it to have the newest options. Recently I've been having doubts as I really like our current boat.
And alot of memories in the last year with our children.Current Correct Craft Boat

I agree with the above...It definitely makes sense to do it for $5-7k per year. The new boats are going down in value more then that each year. That would be great. That being said it is a lot cheaper for me to keep my $41k (bought June 2012) 2008 SANTE 210. Just depends how bad someone wants a new boat. NSS would be nice, but for me it is not worth the $$$, my crew is just not that into surfing.Last edited by scottb7; 09-07-2013, 09:32 PM.

The depreciation on the Nautiques is not that bad for the first year. So if you budget the deprecaition of $5 to $10k (including the tax) and call that your cost of ownership per year then why not trade.2013 G23 450 with NSS (175hrs) and still have the original prop

Not all boats depreciate the same. Even among wakeboats, and of the same brand. Some barely depreciate at all if they are optioned/priced with ONLY the items folks are willing to pay full price for on the used market.
"high" demand boat depreciation: 1-2%... If right boat, right colors, right options, and in immaculate condition. Hours up to 100yr don't even matter. My last 2 boats, I lost a combined $5k in depreciation ... And that's WITH having put 230hrs combined on them. ^^ some of this hurts folks feelings, because they don't know as much as they think they do.
the highest demand boats are so pricey that slightly used ones are equally in high demand...At a perceived value even saving that 2-4k under new.
you gotta have a good dealer with a great reputation... And a big market. Folks won't pay top dollar for boats like these on Craig's.
i don't think anyone has said they make money... I got hammered last 2x on taxes, depends on your state. Im all about a reasonable conversation, but seems Scott/others are hating or has an attitude. which is why I suspect more folks haven't chimed in. Rich? No, by no means, but we make it work as our limited time on the water is at a premium, helps keep things in balance working 60+hrs a week.Last edited by nyryan2001; 09-08-2013, 11:16 AM.2019 G23 450

Did the 2014 have a price increase compared to 2013?

Actually from the prices I've seen... Both at my dealer and from others across the country... Not too much of price increase for 2014, yet another reason I made the jump a month ago.
Honestly... I think this is going to be a blockbuster year for Nautique. ESP with G21 dropping in the spring. If they can get 450 G21s out on the trailer for $110k range... MC, Malibu and others are going to take a bashing on that alone. THAT will become the #1 desired wakeboat in the nation.. In performance and price. ESP with the economy looking up.2019 G23 450

We are trading our 13 in is because we WANT the 550. Do we need it? NO. My wife is the main bread winner in our house, she works crazy hours and loves nautiques. She worked her way through med school and has no student loan bills. So while most partied their way through school and now have student loans to pay off we get to buy new nautiques!! Lol2016 G23 H6
