SANTE 230 questions: Ballast, LED's, graphics

    Hey guys,

I'm buying an '08 230 this week and had a few questions. It seems the search function doesn't work well to search for a specific boat model like "230" in the title.

I want to have the rear tanks pulled out and replaced by 1100 bags. I feel it's better than to piggyback a 750 on top.

We surf 95% of the time. I'm wondering if I need the center arrow sac and the bow bag that goes under the seats, or just one of them, and if so which one?

I'm wondering if with 1100 in the rear surf corner, and the center belly ballast with the arrow sac 650 lbs piggy backed in would be enough?

Also, if some of you have experience with this, how many hours should a dealer charge to remove old side graphics and install new ones with chromax lettering on top?

Same question, roughly how much time to install two Shadowcaster LED's under the platform? What do you guys use as switches?

    Thanks!

I don't run as much weight when I surf but I have found that the 230 doesn't need much bow weight at all. I run only starboard tank and a piggybacked 400 on top, no bow weight at all and the wave is still incredibly long. When you run the 1100 you should be able to get away with just the arrow sack up front.

In this video you can see that you really don't need a lot of weight for a great wave with the 230 -->http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ez6OcQEFvnQ. That's my son surfing and we had the weight set up I just described with about 9ish people in the boat all on the starboard side.

      Hey All,

My 230 I found I need the weight. I am running the 1100's in the back and a 400 under the port side seats. I then have the integrated sac in the bow. I run all full when surfing. I usually have about 5 adults as well. With this setup I can throw a great wake. With less bow weight I don't get the push I like. I found the height is there just not as much push. The bow gives me a MUCH longer wake to surf on. I ride rivers most of the time so I generally run between 10.6 and 11.4 depending on my direction with the current. Water of +10 feet is a MUST. anything less then 10 feet I completely lose my wake.

One thing I did have to do was re prop my boat with this much water I found leveling out was tough. It was more of an issue wakeboarding then surfing.

One more thing. I ended up adding more support to the divider. When having this much water I found the board flexing more then I liked. I built some support bars behind that have worked great. Then only thing I would also recommend is building a cover for the blower port. I take a good amount of water with this much lean.

Perry, I do remember that video, great wave! Those 9 people in the boat added alot of ballast though.

Moto, do you have a picture of your wave with that setup? Why did you go with the bow instead of the arrow sac? Does it help that much more to have the weight more towards the front?

          Thanks guys! anybody else?

            Hey,

Yes, I have a few pics. As for the Arrow vs. Int bags, I would have went with the Arrow but it doesn't work in my 2010. not enough room to put it. I have a few more that are more detailed as well just need to dig them up.

                Boat is officially purchased!

I think I'll do arrow sac and bow sac.

Yeah, we spend 90% of the time on the 236 surfing as well. This was our first summer with it and oh my gosh what a boat. A couple things we're doing while the boat is getting winterized at the dealer is getting the Fresh Air Exhaust installed. With as much surfing as we do, I think it will help to add the the enjoyment of surfing. Anybody else installing FAE this fall? The other thing is underwater lights, can't wait to light up the wake and surf all night long. Anyone have any strong opinion on which underwater lights to get?
We've got the arrow sac and added belly sac on top of the factory one, they certainly add to the length of the wave. I never thought of water depth, thanks Moto822, good intel. Agree on the speed 10.5-11.5.

So there are alot of exhaust fumes coming out?
What engine do you have? I've noticed the ZR6 390hp is louder than the Excalibur 330hp I used to have.

As for underwater lights check for pics of Shadowcaster scm-10's. They are very bright. Never seen them in person but I'm most probably getting 2 green ones.

Zr6 is not quiet, but I don't mind it because it sounds SO good. It has a meaty, throaty sound, but not the rumbly exhaust-out-of-water sound. Hearing the Zr6 start up will give you chill bumps. Exhaust fumes aren't bad on the starboard side; port, however, is a different story, there is a good amount of fume coming up from the port side.

Haha yeah I agree, it has a real manly sound to it. I only drove it once during the water test before purchasing the boat but looking forward to hearing it purr next summer. Was thinking about FAE for a second to reduce engine noise as well but I'll wait and see.

I've got the 390. A lot of fumes, I wouldn't say any more than there should be. Certainly when your going with the wind they hang around a bit. The FAE is really pretty cheap, I think they told me they'd make one custom for my boat for less than $500.

I've heard of the shadow casters, they look awesome but **** they're expensive. Gunna pull the trigger soon, let you know.

Lumitec Sea Blaze 3 underwater lights... Way cheaper. I have 2 in green and they are plenty bright for me, even in our murky water.
