2014 210 build... 343 vs. 409 how much ballast can the 343 handle?

With my limited ballast knowledge and experimenting with my 200 the 343 has gotten the job done. I have a 750 in the back and two 260's, front and whichever side we r surfing. This has been our best combo. I'm concerned if I go with the 343 in the new 210. I'd like to put a 750 in each locker, on top of the 1150 stock. The 210 being bigger and more weight, am I still going to have enough hp with the 343? Thanks for ur help PN friends, one day hopefully ill have answers for someone.

Where in ct are you? Where are you buying?

One my second 210 with the 343. I have had 10 people in the boat tanks full and still plenty of power. If you check the net you will notice most buy the 210 with the 343.

I've got a 230 with the 343 and running belly and surf side tanks full + 750 in locker + 750 on rear surf side seat + 550 on observer seat (only when surfing port side) + 550 in the bow and the 343 doesn't hesitate at all.

210 here as well with 343 . Mines a 12 model. Have had 10 people and sacks full with factory ballast. No problems. You do notice the power difference but I don't complain when I'm filling it up at the pump

yep, i agree that 343 is fine. i have had full gas tank, full belly, 1100 sac in one corner, and 650 under love seat and about 5 adults and it is fine. might take a bit longer but ok. standard prop too.

I have an 14 210 with a 343 and love it. I tested both the 343 and 409 and choose the 343. I run full ballast with 6-19 people and its no problem. I'd go with that for sure. Less engine noise we found as well. PM me if you need any other info.

I have never had a 210 but had a 226 with the zr6 and now have a 220 with 343. 343 with a 1235 prop works very good. You lose some on top end about 5 to 8 mph with the prop change. 226 with zr6 no prop change needed to pull plenty of ballast and people. Fuel economy seems to be better with the 343 but they were different boats. Here is my opinion now you know my expirence with the two power plants. If both boats were the same price yeah I'd take the zr. Would I pay the added price for the zr no way. The zr is a great engine that will probably out last a 343. That is just based on the performance in trucks and SUVs.

I was worried about the same thing, 11 Sport 200 with the 343 and last week a 210 with the 343. It seems the 343 with cats runs better and the hull is way more efficient on the water. I was nervous but now feel very confident it was a solid decision.

We usually order 343s in stock 210 boats. Just fine and the ballasted stuff is more about low end torque than peak horsepower numbers.

I have a 2012 210 with the 343 with the cats. I would have probably ordered a bigger engine but that was what came in the Byerly they sent to AZ, lucky for me we got to try it out and it was fine. I have the ACME 1579 prop and we have had factory plus 400lbs of lead in the nose and 750's on top of the rear tanks full as they would go (not quite full but filling the compartment) for around 3000lbs total ballast and I wouldn't go any heavier than that on the hull let alone the motor. With 6-8 people on board the 343 would get there just barely fast enough for competition use so we were able to back off on the weight for less experienced riders. I use exactly 1750 of total ballast routinely (the new factory option) and don't notice it so the 343 should be perfect. I am looking add another 1200 of optional ballast and although I probably wont use all of it for wakeboarding I don't have any concerns about power. I am not sure what the 1579 costs me in terms of top end as I only go 20 mph empty and nobody rides faster than 24 so I couldn't tell you what the max speed is, its good to know I have options if I need it for more hole shot.

I don't know how you could get 19 people in a 210 I think the CG limit is 12 which is the most I have had when we were up at Powell for a cable contents and that is flat out full you would have to stack em' up like cord wood. With that many people I had to be judicious with my use of ballast and you wouldn't believe how much gas it took to get from Antelope Point Marina up to the end of Last Chance Bay for a couple of hours. If I was going to go bigger on motor I would be really tempted to just go all in for the 450 but honestly I doubt you would need it unless you are going really heavy and ar really impatient or you plan on pulling a lot of short sets in a confined space like a school or competition then extra power is always welcome.
