    TSC1 vs TSC2

Guys, I am contemplating the purchase of a 2002 TS see two with the GT 40 engine versus a 1998 TSC one with the GT 40 engine. Other than the subtle differences in the interior, would anyone like to provide their comments about the differences in the wake between these two boats, ski ability, and any other things I should be considering?

1998, analogue gauges, black letters on white background, that you can actually see. Analogue hour meter, that works, and does not forget completely removable back seat. Analogue switched, and just a key.

The 2002 had the "new and improved" digital tachometer, and speedometer. Blue digits, on a lighter green back ground. The original Teleflex tachometer, that had an integral hour meter, probably failed by now, so unless the boat had Perfect Pass installed when new, you are relying on service records to get an idea of the hours on the boat.
If the 2002 uses a numeric keypad, instead of just switches, the key pads have had some issues.
I do not know if the 2002 boat had the "N" graphics, but in my opinion, the graphics on the 1998 just look so much more "classic".

From what I have heard, the slalom wake is pretty identical. Because you can remove the back seat from the 1998, you might be able to get it's slalom wake very slightly better. My understanding the wake at trick skiing speeds is slightly better on the 1998, too.

But you need to drive, and ski behind both boats to evaluate which one is the better boat, and which one is the better boat for you.

The 2002 didn't have the "N" graphic, as it was the first incarnation of the final 196 design - actually the first SN to actually be called 196. You won't notice a difference in skiing performance, IMO. After owning 3 late model 196's, I must say I prefer the TSC 1 bubble back design, as it's way easier to access the platform. I did use the trunk on my boats, but wouldn't have missed it much if wasn't there. The 2002 digital gauges should've been swapped out by now, as they were garbage. Both boats are awesome, so you can't go wrong either way. Condition and price would dictate my decision.

Thanks for your responses. The 2002 has over 1900 hous but is well maintained. Love the analog gauges and the simplicity of the 1998. The 2002 is rare with the GT-40 otherwise I would be considering another boat. Price is great, but the boat will need a little freshening up. Anyone else have any thoughts or real world experiences skiing behind each??

Do you know the hours are accurate on the 2002? The GT-40 ECM doesn't store hours, and if they swapped the gauges, you'd have to trust the owner that they are correct. What condition is the '98 in? I'm going with a clean '98 over an '02 that needs TLC all day long.

When I was first shopping for a Ski Nautique, I thought I wanted a model with the rear trunk. Being newer models those were more expensive, so I "settled" for a 98 with the GT-40. I am so glad I settled. Removing the seat and having all that room and easy access to the platform is great. I would only trade my boat for a 200.

I ski my 97 regularly, but I do get out a few times a year with my friend who has a 2003 TSC2.
I am by no means a great course skier, but from my observations the difference is negligible. I ski 15-28off.
If I am not mistaken I think most agree that TS1, TS2, and TSC3 are all pretty close. They only way you are going to notice big differences is if you are a well seasoned skier getting into 38off and greater.

              Personally. I would get the TSC1. The only other boat I would buy that isn't a 200 would be a 2008-2009 TSC3.

If you're getting into -38, a 200 should be in your future, as there's zero spray at shortline. That's the only difference I notice between the TSC's and OSC (200) hulls.

No knock on the 200- great boat- and no doubt a great wake. I know it's thursty and, like, the Porsche Panamera- much bigger in person. I appreciate all of the responses. Leaning toward the 98'....

The 200 is thirsty indeed! A shock to the system coming from a 196. Post some pics when you bring your choice home.
