I did, I appreciate your responses and inputs. I personally believe you would be ok in a Toureg, however I had a flash of driving down a pass and loosing your brakes! There is always the what ifs... I went with a F150 with Ecoboost. I was going to get a 1500 Sierra but both my wife and I liked it more on the test drive. Even though GMC's are awesome we liked the interior and looks more on the F150, and I got 0% financing as well. Thanks!

Very cool. Seems to be the most popular choice for anyone towing these days.

Solid choice, balance between tow capacity n mpg.
Still curious how well that truck will handle a fully loaded G complete with gear, peeps n gas. I have to suspect while capable, one would feel the girth of that beast behind a 1/2 ton.
Post a follow up when u have a chance.
Congrats on a new truck, I know that I will ever get that feeling.

Fatchance.... please provide us a quick review how you like the Ecoboost on the G23.

Very interested to hear what MPGs you get at 70mph, what RPM... how much tranny downshift at 70mph.

Can you set the cruise at 70 and pretty much leave it set? or will it constantly downshift every overpass and slight hill you hit?

If you have decent hills and such its going to downshift to 5th or even 4th with a G23. I have a 2006 wakesetter VLX so we are talking maybe 6000lbs total with the extreme trailer and fuel/gear. Going through the Rocky mountains from Calgary to Vernon I get about 9-11mpg going at about 110km/h average(up to 130km/h in spots to pass people and down to 80-90km/h when you get stuck.

It can maintain 110-120km/h up some big hills and still gain speed, but its in 4th gear at 3000rpm doing it.

I suspect with a G23 its going to be working harder due to the added weight. It will do it I think, but I would get a 3/4 ton diesel or 1 ton if I had to make the drive regularly with the boat. If you are flat ground the F150 should be fine, but its going to squat. I have firestone airbags on mine to level it out and my boat weighs less.

These threads are funny. People under tow so bad due to a manufacturers rated tow capacity. In the real world you are over on tongue weight and GVWR well before you hit the tow capacity the manufacturers claim. Tell me how many of you towing a G23 without equalizer bars have a hitch rated to handle over 600lbs of tonque weight! I bet 95-100% of you don't have over a class 3-4 hitch and I am meaning guys with 1 ton diesels as well. Go look at your hitches and I bet they are only rated to 600lbs without equalizer bars. Same goes for your receiver and ball, I suspect they are only good to 6000-6500lbs tops!

I have a 2010 Touareg TDI and pull my G23 with no problem. I don't pull it over 45 mph and only pull it less than 20 miles round trip to lake. I do have electric over hydraulic breaks on my trailer so I don't worry about stoping power. I really can't tell much difference between towing the G23 than pulling my old boat a 230. The TDI hAs over 400 lbs of torque and all wheel drive so it can pull weight. It doesn't seem to compress the rear of the TReg or lift the front. All and all I was happy the way it pulls the boat but I am not going to press my luck and pull it over 50.

Thats what had me worried about the Touareg, towing around town I believe I would of been fine. When we go to vacation it is a 500 mile round trip and there is 1 cascade pass and 2 big long hills to go over. Even though it may be fine I wanted to have the piece of mind. Even though my wife and I would of preferred the Touareg we do both love the F150

Unfortunately I have only towed at 40 mph a few miles to my buddy's shop to winterize and now it is on storage, in the spring I will let u know!

                        Torchred has a good point.
Also, if you are involved in an accident, no matter who's fault it is - and any part of your tow combination is underrated (aka hitch tongue weight) there is always a chance of being cited for that.... Just my .02

                          ^^^ Just as a follow up.... I checked and I was towing the 8-9k G23 on a tri-ball hitch rated for 6000lbs.

Just bought one of these, its my Christmas present.

I was think of going Aluminum as well. (avoiding rust in trailer hitch)

But Do you trust how this hitch does not have a pin that goes thru to secure it.
those buttons just pop out and lock in to your receiver hitch.

That is a darn nice looking ball mount. At first glance I really liked the locking mechanism and now A330Captain has me second guessing that. No matter I use the XD hit so I can use the mud flap attachment. Doesn't look as nice but gets the job done with 10k rating and 1200lb tongue capacity. http://inventiveproductsinc.com/FW_ITD9125.php

A330- no, not worried about it whatsoever... If you go to their website, they make very sturdy quality gear.. They have a l video that shows that internal locking mech. It's 10k rated American made... The way I see it that's 4k higher than the garbage Chinese 6k hitch I used all summer.

I am really looking forward to the anti-rattle part... I'm sick of hearing the hitch back there clanking around when not towing whenever I hit a bump. I really dig the 1 key for everything... And wanted everything 100% locked.... I live in a bad town.

Kinda loosely talking to the local dodge dealer now on a 3/4ton Cummins diesel....we'll see.
