    G23 Spare Prop

    Guys

With riding on a river here and the lack of shops that carry props im going to buy a spare prop in case i do one. Any recommendations on what prop to buy for my G23 with the XR550, do I buy the same prop as factory or are there better options?

ATM we're just running full ballast but i imagine in time a few fat sacks will probably make there way into the boat!

    Cheers Brad

    OEM 550 prop is a 15" x 14" at .150 cup.

    If I were to buy a spare it'd be a 15" x 14" at .105 cup.

You'll likely loose 1-2mph at wide open speeds dropping cup.... but you'll pull harder and faster out of the hole...likely 1-2 seconds faster completely sac'd out heavy going from 0-23mph. My boat will do 43-44mph... Ive probrably done that 2-3 times for only a few seconds.

Nettles will do custom prop jobs for about $200. give them a prop anywhere in these ^^^ ranges they can even add diameter. I can tell you for certain the 550 can swing a bigger prop with the same big step of the 14" pitch. knowing this, if I were to order a custom prop... I'd order a 16 x 14 at .150cup. The goal here is to reduce prop slip and increase transfer of the force of the prop.... 550 needs a bigger prop to do that. OEM prop is the biggest wake/ski prop avail... asumming the new 450's 17x17 is too big.

Almost..... OEM is 15"x14-1/4"x.150. ACME 2261.
Agree less cup will boost hole shot & hold better corner speed for heavily weighted boat. 15"x14-1/4"x.105. ACME 2263.

What is your WOT revs with zero ballast?

Are you sure about the 16” prop?
Experience has shown less cup will aid hole shot and corner speed for the same sized props 2261 and 2263.
I’m not so sure about the 16x14x.150. Has it been done & what is your theory behind it?

            The rationale:

the 550 will swing the biggest meanest prop up to full speed at 5500rpms. Suggests it could take a slight larger prop or slightly more pitch. The OEM prop is the biggest wake prop avail... Not considering the 17 x17... Surely too big with this gear ratio.

the 16" prop would be a custom prop by Nettles... Taking a 15" prop and adding material to make larger..... Call them and they'll explain.

My only concern is the prop shaft of the 2013 boats being too weak to handle the torque.

Hey fellas. I picked up my 2014 G23 550 the other day and am in the same situation. Shallow river I need a spare prop but am wondering if I can buy a better one to use normally and then use the factory as my spare.

As I read this it sounds as if dropping cup and leaving the rest is great but there is some debate on the large diameter? And honestly with that big motor even if i put an extra 3000 lbs in it is stock prop going to probably be ok getting out of the hole?

I will say I was going for the tone on tone with the black graphic over black hull on the side but both are too identical in color so unfortunately you cant see the graphic.
