Wakeboard and Surf behind 200-OB?

I just bought my first Natique and couldn't be more excited for summer! Got a '12 200-OB because the longest boat we are allowed to have on our lake is '20 and my daughters are REALLY getting into slalom. We have other friends on the lake with wakeboard/surf boats for when we want to do that stuff (which isn't nearly as often as skiing). That said - I'm planning on purchasing fat sacs and a post extender for when we want to ski/surf behind our boat.

Anyone wakeboard without fat sacs (using the hydro gate)? Obviously wouldn't be great, but for weekend guests who are just trying it for the first time, it's got to be fine?

Thoughts? Ideas? Suggestions?

Sure, you will be able to wakeboard. I have a friend that has a mastercraft ski boat and his wake with full tanks is frankly less then my 210 empty. If anyone ever get's into wakeboarding and wants air you will never make them happy. That being said. we have weighted the heck out of one side of his ski boat and surfed. So you can do some wakeboarding and surfing.

Sure, we surf and board behind the same boat after skiing. I did get mine with the tower though. The gate was fine in the beginning, just move your guests around to the sides and back of the boat. The saddlebags make great seats. I wound up adding a 650lb sac across the back(seat stays at the dock), and move two, 260lb sacs around on the sides. It's not a G but everyone still has fun. I've had good boarders getting 10+ feet of air doing flips. Play around with some ballast a bit and enjoy! I store all the sacs, pump, ropes in one sac, skis in the other, and boards on the racks.

The best wakeboarder on our lake is a high school kid, who rides behind his parent's Response LXi. He uses a fat sack and a Skylon, and tells me it's not necessarily the size of the wake, rather the skill of the rider. Not being a boarder, I have no idea if he's right or wrong with that assessment, but one thing is clear...it is possible to rip it up behind a direct drive ski boat. Enjoy your new boat!!

Most of us are trying to make up for not having the skill or ability to acquire the skill (time or effort) by buying bigger and heavier boats, or in your case a better ski boat then is probably necessary. You could probably slalom behind a old runabout, right?

I am going to order a custom sac for my 200, I want to get the fat seat but capable of holding 2500 lbs. I have the regular fat seat right now. It seems like the shape of the wake is there but another 1000 lbs would really "wake" her up. This week some time I am going to fill up the fat seat and throw another 750 on top to see what happens.
Maybe if we order our custom bags at the same time we can get a deal?

You have to be careful when you add weight to only one part of the boat. The weight being in the front or the rear changes the attitude at which the hull moves through the water which changes the wake shape. All boats like weight in different places so don't be surprised if you have to add weight to the front or mid section of the boat to produce the shape you desire.

I see where u are coming from but this boat is an exception to the rule. It rips out of the water like there is no weight in it and the wake is super clean. Half the sac sits around the engine anyway. I would be scared to add weight to the bow of this boat, it might dive to the bottom of the river.

I have tried adding two 400 lb sacks to the port side (in the rear) for surfing and can only go rope-less if the tip of the board is inches from the platform. I don't expect to get a good surf wake but would like it usable for my crew and to do occasionally myself. I am thinking of getting a really seat sack but would love to hear what others have found success with.

Loaded her down today, probably around 1800-2100 lbs of ballast total plus 3 people. Its doesnt have the explosion that my 01 SAN has but it gets the job done for sure. IMO this is the best boat money can buy. Its hands down the best slalom boat and doubles as a pretty darn good wakeboard boat, the ultimate crossover!

I recently traded in my 200v 2012. We did 750 in either rear locker, 260 in front/center and another 260 either side we are surfing on. Made a great surf wake! Took the salesman we bought the boat from out, he was shocked at what we turned the wave into. You will love it with some extra ballast. I would have kept it, except I'm goofy and switching sides is a pita! So, looking fwd to NSS in the 210 on order. Good luck !
