    rear seat removal on 200

Just to throw it out there>>>who always removes their rear seat when skiing.......i get strange looks from others in the marina (non skiers)

I do and its a PITA.....never use the rear seat it always finds itself left on the dock

not sure if it really benefits that much??

I took mine out before the boat ever hit the water. I'll put it back in for the new owner, its easy.

I've never used mine. It's wrapped up in plastic sheeting and taped up, sitting in the garage rafter. I'll pull it out if on the off chance I ever sell the boat.

Slightly off topic, but on the ole PS 205 we would take the back seat out after hours, set up camp chairs facing the rear, crank tunes, drink beer and JUMBO!!! the bass/pan fish.

I understand every pound counts when slalom skiing but how much does the back seat actually weigh in a 200? The one in my 90 sport probably weighed 60-80 lbs or so if I remember right and I imagine the modern ones are much lighter. How much of a difference is that really making by removing it? Seems like the difference between a 1/2 tank and full tank of fuel would be the same difference and probably not very noticeable to most. I'm not knocking, just curious.

For us, its not the weight issue... but we've always pulled the back seats out of our ski boats. Its not like anyone sits in the seat when the boat is pulling skiers or footers, so it only serves to take up space, getting wet and stepped on in the process. Its much nicer opening up the floor so you can make room for gear and walking around.

                  Shawn,

Less fuel or an add'l observer will make a noticeable difference in the wake, the seat is probably weight wise about 1/4 tank of fuel, would it be noticeable, maybe barely

Not that big of a deal on the 200 as the hull is a big wide boy and that seat is light. I used to take the seat out of my 86 because with the back/base/bottom section that thing is pretty darn heavy. Never noted if it mad a difference. I did it mainly (like Tim stated) because people like to stomp all over it and it retains water like a mofo.

Pull mine out every time skiing. Don't like climbing all over it. Plus it makes it easier to hand things over the stern, soap, handle, ski, etc. do have a semi-private dock though, so it's not in anybody's way. The filler cushion for my 200OB is the pain. Took it in and out the first few times for the cover support pole, than just left it in the house. Rather not even have it than look at it sitting around.

Amen...exactly why I always used to leave mine out.

I take the removable seat out of my 211 for the same reason...opens up space. It also has the side effect of encouraging people to use the walk-way and not walk on the vinyl.

My older ski boats almost always had the rear seats removed. My boat usage is very different now, with a new crew that really likes to relax on the rear seat so mine stays in. Gotta keep the crew happy if you want someone to pull you! :-)

                              thanks for the feedback guys

also especially on the 200 no access to the little storage locker (for soap/ gloves etc) on the back floor when seat installed. Maybe CC never wanted us to keep seat in for this reason??
