    what to do

I bought a 2000 sport nautique from a dealer. I was told it was a 2001, all the paper work said 2001, I get the registration and its a 2000. I check the hull number to verify and its a 2000. I still like the boat it was an ok deal so im not really sure if I let it go cause its my fault for not checking or make a big stink. what do you guys think?

From what i have learned there is really nothing different between a 2000 and a 2001. They both have crappy teleflex gauges that will need to be replaced and they both have the push button keypad that will need to be replaced.

The 2000 should have 75th anniversary badges on it and a 2001 shouldnt.

The way these boats hold their value the difference in one year wont make a difference when it comes to resale. When i was in the market i would have paid the same amount for a 95-99 super sport. What matters is condition.

To answer your question, let it go. You have an awesome boat with an indestructible motor. Have fun!

Have you checked the VIN to confirm what year it actually is? Does it have the big "N" gel pattern or the horizontal bands? Other then the graphics option both years are pretty much the same

I don't know that I'd be very happy about. Condition dictates value, then a 2001 in equal condition should be worth a little more. It seems odd that a dealer would make this mistake, as they know the hull ID#.

the dealer just overlooked it. it has 75th anniversary decals on it, and the paint is the 99 style witch i like a lot better. teraflex gauges were replaced so was the key pad. the boat was in really good condition i just dont like being told one thing then finding another. when i brought it to there attention they brushed me off and thats kinda what really pissed me off. i should have done more research on the boat but it is my first one and i was excited at the shiny stuff it happens to everyone lol. and i wanted to get out of there before the wife changed her mind.

In reality im sure the dealer had no idea...it is just one of those things. If it is in good shape and you are happy then thats what matters. A 2000 is better then a 2001 anyways because the graphics are better. The big N was a bit ugly in my opinion.

Look at it this way. A 2003 or 2002 SAN are often more saught after than a 2004. Just because of the tower.

Point being, years dont matter. My boats 17 years old and it kicks ***.

I sold MC's for 4 years, and this never would've happened or flown at our dealership, without heads rolling. Just my feeling, but I would be p.o'd at the dealership. No matter how many ways it's spun, you were sold an older boat than you were told you purchased.

Hate to say it but I agree with this.

I'd be upset. I know at the end of the day it may be a blessing in disguise but still a lie is a lie and I find it hard to believe that the dealer overlooked this.

I also would be a bit miffed about it, run a kbb or Edmunds on your boat and options using both years, whatever the difference in value would be my gauge as to what the dealer possibly owes you.
In the end that's a really great all around boat, enjoy it!

If it was a Nautique dealer they should have known. The big problem is finding a comparable market prices for condition and hours to calculate the difference. Quinner is right...you will probably have to use market averages. Just don't let it ruin your love for the boat.

I agree with what everyone is saying now. Enjoy your new boat, but you should also be able to be compensated for their mistake.

my guess is this was an honest mistake. I've seen similar situations like this over the years in our dealerships. In my instances it's been a clerical error that snowballs. Since you like the boat I'd just try to get the price adjusted to reflect what you bought. There might not be the margin in the deal to allow that to happen, then you could try some free or discounted accessories. At the end of the day you may end up with a nice boat at a price you can afford that happens to be a year older than you thought.

Is this going to cause you any issues when you and try to sell it?

I agree, if you like the boat, try to find the difference in value and ask them for it. It's probably $1k or less. If they won't pay (or do something like provide free oil, tranny, changes and winterizations for a few years), then you can either live with it, tell your story, and enjoy the boat, or you can tell them they can take it back and pay you 100% of your money back, plus any out of pocket expenses (e.g., title fees, taxes you paid, etc.). They agreed to sell you a 2001 and they delivered a 2000. This does not fall under the AS IS clause.

I assume that this is not a new Nautique dealer.
