What is considered a high time boat?

I am looking at getting a G23 that has about 590 hours on it. I am new to the inboard style of boat and would like to know what is considered high time? I know this is a loaded question, but what is a typical life expectancy of the 450 motor?

the question is how well was it taken care of. If it's immaculate then you should be fine. There are members on here with motors over 1&2K. But if they didn't take care of it then it's possible all necessary maintenance wasn't completed. Are there service records?

It was a nautique rep boat when the G23 first came out, then went back to nautique for a complete go through. It will come with all maintenance records. The engine will still have 2 years of warranty and the boat will have 4. Coming from the I/O side of boating, you typically don't see that kind of time. My concern would be 5 years down the road when I go to resale and put an additional 500 hours on it, what percentage of sticker will it be worth.

What color is it? Is it green? If so, I know the rep that owned that boat, and I'm confident it was very well taken care of. Yes, resale will be a little lower, but I'm sure you're paying quite a bit less for it now too.

590 hours is a lot for a 1 year old boat. But then again, I wish I got to ride that much!

Whats the approx price you are paying for it? Does the price reflect 600hrs?

If you are getting a great deal... with what most consider 6-8yrs of use already on the boat, i would not hesitate. these engines are good for over 3k hrs.

I assume if its a rep boat... its heavily optioned. 590hrs, but assume otherwise immaculate condition..... I'd expect that boat to be priced in the $80-90s.

6000 hrs + and now am only having low oil pressure at start up (when warm only-for a second or so). Still strong as **** & smooth as ......(mmmm) 2003 196 Excalibur 330. I will take a pic this week end of hrs on gauge and post as proof. Still used 1 - 3 times a week! You cant beat PCM! Waiting for winter (June or so) to pull the motor

I know the year is stating that it is a 1 year old boat, but actually, the reps got these on the water in 2012. Still a lot for 2 summers worth of boating. I appreciate the feedback. I can't really compare pricing on a G23 with that much time as they have not been out, but, they are asking 107K. It is loaded with a lot of options.

I wouldn't worry about it at all.

The Rep that had that boat took very good care of it. I went out with him about a month after he got it. He sprays his boats with a detail spray and whipes it down after pretty much every use. The team at the dealership you are looking to purchase the boat from is top notch. Plus the colors are perfect! Good luck.

According to many in the industry a standard of 150 hours per year is used for average. As you can see with most boats for sale, many have a ton less hours. As everyone above stated...it's all about how you maintain the boat. In my experience people that run 'em, maintain them much more than someone who has a 8 year old boat with 120 hours it. I wouldn't be scared of the hours at all. I have had Nautiques up to 750 hours with not one issue at all. Change the oil, tranny fluid, packing, impeller, and plugs...a battery now and then and enjoy.

I don't want to offend anyone trying to sell that boat, but $107k for a boat with almost 600 hours??? I would pass. In five years with 1000+ hours you might be able to get $50k. That's a huge depreciation.

For a little bit more you can find a used G with less than 100 hours...
