G23 extra ballast

I just put in an order for a 2104 G23 with the XR550 engine and NSS. I wanted to get other G owners opinion on putting extra ballast in the boat. I primarily wakeboard but plan on doing more wakesurfing this summer. I used ride a Malibu 23LSV running full stock ballast, the wedge, and about an extra 1500 pounds in lead weights and fat sacs.

How much weight would be enough in the rear lockers and in the bow? I plan on buying two 1100 pound sacs to put in the rear locker and two 400 pound sacs to put under the bow seats. How should I be weighting the boat to get the wake dialed in for wakeboarding and how should I weight the boat to get a dialed in Surf Wake?

You'll LOVE the 550 in the G! I had one last year, and it was awesome!

I read through that earlier and saw all of the ballast info on there. There is a ton of different setups that people are going with. I guess I wanted the opinions of how other owners were running the extra ballast with the NCRS and the NSS to get the best surf wake and what they thought was the most dialed in wakeboard wake.

NautiqueJeff did you ever have any problems getting on plane with the 550 and extra weight in the boat? And did you only run premium fuel in your G or did you also run mid-grade?

I never had any issues getting on plane with the 550, and we had a full crew and full ballast in my boat often. The 550 has great power!

We ran a couple of 2013 450's and they certainly had trouble planing off with a full load of people and full ballast, but that's fixed for 2014 with the 2:1 V-drive.

I always ran 93 octane in mine.

My old 2013 is for sale right now if you know anyone who might be interested. It has about 70 hours on it. The person who bought it at the end of the year is going back to school, so he's looking to sell it. It is an awesome boat with the 550!

When surfing, I primarily just run stock ballast and put people in the corner of the side the wave is on. I run NSS at 3 and NCRS is always at 5 for surfing unless I am pulling a beginner. I run 11.3 mph. At times when I have less people I will fill a couple of fly high 150 lbs bricks and move from corner to corner. This is because my crew has a number of goofy and regular riders and we are always switching sides. I prefer surf style over skim. The factory wave is lots of fun and long. I just have to pump a little harder for tricks.

When I am the only one surfing, I will fill stock ballast and 1100 lbs in starboard locker. I also put 300 lbs on the starboard seat or people. I fill the port sac about 1/3 full which is approx 350 lbs. I run NSS at 0 and NCRS at 5. Speed is 11.3-11.5 mph. Wave is sweet. Steep, beefy and long. I usually have one or two adults in the bow with the kids. Tons of push. Don't do this often cuz it is a pain to switch sides, but every chance I get I do. It is the best wave and a blast to surf.
