    Dash Lights

I dunno if this is just me, but it is kinda weird driving at night in a blue boat, with a red dash, and a green PP. Is it possible to change the lights for the guages on the dash to blue? How about for PP? And for the keypad area, how does that rubber light up red? Is it possible to change a bulb there from red to blue, or is it in the keypad itself or something... Thanks a lot...

If you're comfortable with taking electronics apart, you should be able to replace the red LED's with blue ones. I know I wouldn't have the guts to do it though...

I know someone who I trust taking it apart, not me though... Dragon, is the LED light for the guages, keypad area, or both? I'm hoping thats my answer and its that simple...

Maybe Frost will hop in on this, but from my knowlege the led's are used in the keypad as well as the dash lights.

          Hey all

You can't change the LEDS in the key pad, as the pad does not come apart. The lights on your dash gauges can be replaced by only removing the pod. On the back of the gauge you will see where the light plugs in, much like an automotive gauge. If I remember right it's just a red boot on the light bulb that makes it red, I don't know where you could get a blue boot from...

PP is another part like the key pad, you have no access to the guts of the gauge, but the back lighting of the PP gauge is not from a light bulb, it's from the display panel itself.

Thanks Frost  I'm not sure if its worth having blue guages if the keypad is still red, that may look a little weird... but we'll see...

              Frost,
The PP display is lit, but you can also light the gauge itself. When I removed my second spedo in favor of the in-dash PP display, I used the light from the spedo and poped it into the same hole in the perfect pass gauge. Behind the white of the gauge, it glows orange like the rest of the gauges.

You can get the bulb covers from Jeggs or summit racing. They sell them to change the color of the gauges in cars. AutoMeter should be the brand.

                    Frost,
My boat is out at the lake, but I'll try to remember to snap a pic next time I'm out there.

Brad, please post a picture of the light on the PP gauge. This probably looks pretty good. Do you remember if the PP gauge has a bulb holder or do you need a bulb holder that is inserted into the hole of the gauge?

That brings me to the next question. Does anyone know where to get these lights? From ag4ever's post they sell them at Jeggs or Summit auto racing, at least the covers. Are these lights made specifically for the marine environment or can a regular automotive light be used?

                        TwinTip,
I just removed the one out of the back of the spedo I removed (I think it was a quarter turn, and pull it out), and inserted it into the back of the PP in the same way.

The covers are just a flexable plastic, so it would work in a marine environment.

Here is a link to the product:
