Replacing parts... Do I need more?

    2001 Air Direct Drive.

All the interior is removed for new uphoulstry. While this is out of the way, I'm going to install a heater, and a new steering cable. Is there anything else that should be replaced at this time? I really dont want to remove the pain in the tail interior again!

another question... When I unhooked the steering cable from the tiller arm; the rudder wasnt very smooth. Should I remove the rudder? Put new packing? Thanks for any help

I just removed the kick panel and found this. Anybody know what this switch is for? It is hanging above the sterring cable.

When I did my steering cable, I replaced my throttle and shift cables also. I replaced the packing for the rudder also. I wish I had repacked the driveshaft, since I have to do that before spring.

That knob is for adjusting the speedo.

Bscott is on it. When the gauges fail and are replaced with the retrofit Faria units they get that adjustable speedo knob. Nobody drills it into the dash they just let it hang behind. As for the rudder. Replace the packing but thoroughly clean all surfaces of the rudder shaft and inside the rudder port. Give the rudder port and the rudder shaft a nice coating of a water resistant marine grease and take a picture of your smile when you feel how smooth it all is after you get the cable in. Might as well do the shaft while you are in packing mode. Shift cables aren't a bad idea but those are much easier than a steering cable when its all assembled so I would wait until those actually start showing some stiffness.

I didnt think I would need a camera for the smile, but Zach was correct. That was an excellent feeling to turn the wheel with one finger.

One more question - I started the heater install today, and found the factory connector (I think) for the heater wiring(keypad). It is a 4 pin with a black, orange, yellow, and red wire. But there is female connector plugged in and has somekind of resistor before it "deadends". Should I cut the wires and splice the heatercraft wiring into this female? Or must I not use the factory keypad, and wire to the battery? Thanks...

Unplug the plug with the resistors, and plug the heater motor connector in where the plug was.

Franciz did you get your new steering cable back through the existing pvc tube/tunnel in the ski locker? My cable broke last year while on vacation and had to have it repaired while out of town (or I would of done it myself). I was told they could not feed it back through the existing hole so I now have a cable running through my ski locker and a hole drilled underneath the tube/tunnel. Wasn't a happy customer and it didn't help they my boat a mess and grease all over my seats. Also do you have a part number of the heater kit I was looking at installing one on my 01 Air as well. Thanks.

Yes, I got the cable in correct(I think). The heater is the "300 pro Elite kit complete" from heatercraft.

                        Anyone know where this goes?
it was under one of the bow seats, and I can't make it fit anywhere.

Hmmm that's a strange one. Just a guess but it doesn't go on the back side of the trailer's fender does it? My single axle has half moon shaped ones about that size. Actually now that I look again I bet it goes curve side down on the starboard side to separate the area under the bow seat and the area under the helm. I'm pretty sure my boat has something similar there. Let me know if you need a pic.

                            That's the place. Thanks.
Wish I asked before the heater install, because the hoses that connect to the rear of the unit are now to far into the bow to put this piece back.
