Sharkskin vs. Sunbrella covers

Has anyone had any experience with Sharkskin boat covers? Are the Sunbrella covers that much better? I've read/heard that the Sharkskin covers do not breathe and so mold/mildew is more likely to grow, and that the color rubs off on the boat. Anyone know anything about this?

I own a sharkskin cover but have never used a sunbrella. It is true that the sharkskin cover does not breath all that great. Its no big deal though....we vent ours and also use moisture absorbant pellets when we have the cover on for long periods.

I have had no problems with the color getting on my boat....the cover is very tough and durable.

Sharkskin covers can have vents put in them to help them breathe. Sharkskin is lighter in weight of the total cover but strong. Most covers aren't built as towing covers. Be sure to find out bfore towing with a cover on.

I originally had a Sunbrella cover that lasted about 12 years. I currently have a Sharkskin cover that needs replacement after two years. I will never again buy anything other than Sunbrella.

My other boat ('93 SN) currently has a canvas cover which is absolutely worthless...will not keep out rain water. I even treated with water repellant.

Yes, the sharkskin cover will allow (cause) mildew to grow, but no worse than canvas due to the water infiltration. With Sunbrella, I never had a mildew problem. So can anyone recommend a brand (Sunbrella) for my '93 SN?
