The thing I see wrong with this if they used the fuel injection system from the original engine, and the engine is actually a 6.2 then the computer is not calibrated to run that size engine so there may be problems that have not shown yet but would cause concern about durability. The shop may have installed a Mercury 6.2l replacement engine in my opinion not good. But a couple of questions that you need to ask is , Is it really a 6.2l or a 5.7l? and will the shop or previous owner backup any problems with a improper install?.

Too bad, very nice boat otherwise.
Anyone have a nice 210 or 211 to sell for a great deal?atlantarhinoplastycritic.com

All Chevy 6.2L motors are not created equally. The new 6.2L motors are LSx based motors and significantly different than the base 2 bolt main 5.7L motor the 330 Excalibur was based on. Since he said it was a Vortec then that would likely put it in the family of 2 bolt motors with a distributor versus the new coil/cylinder motors. Can he send you a picture of the motor?
I would not be afraid of this but I would need to learn more about what was in the motor. Is it fuel injected? Did they use the PCM manifolds, water pump, etc.? To me, a motor guy, I would be most interested in the induction system. Anything from a carb to a truck injection system could be sitting on top of it. If they happened to reuse the PCM manifolds it would probably be fuel starved to a point where it would fail prematurely. A large part of the value of these modern motors is in the tuning. Because these non-cat motors run in open loop mode the tuning is much more critical because things are tuned for as they should be running, not necessarily for as they are actually running.
If it was a good deal, I would not be completely turned off by the possibility but it would not rank as high as a nice clean stock boat.

I did ask for some engines photos to be emailed but I never got them. I agree with swc5150, too many ifs for me and I'm gonna stay away. The boat is on sf Bay Area cl and has photos of the boat on it now, but none of the engine.
Thanks for all the advice. Much appreciated.

Here's a sweet one just posted. Seems to fit what you're looking for, with a factory motor
