Does anyone know history of this 2001 SAN from California

G'day All,

My family are upgrading from our first boat, a Glastron stern drive, to a "real boat".

Will be used for wakeboarding (40%), skiing (40%) and tubing (20%). We have the Murray River (Australia's largest river) at our back door and get on the river 3-4 evenings a week for about 4 months of the year.

Been looking at Mastercraft, Malibu and Nautique and keen on investigating this boat further

This boat is a fresh import from California with registration CF 7778 PN. Does anyone on this forum know the history of this boat?

Will hopefully be inspecting boat soon. I know the basics to inspect but what specific nautique items should I be looking out for? I have read about the instruments failing - what are typical symptoms? Any vinyl trim issues around this era?

I believe the non wrap around lounge in this boat means it was a custom request and quite rare. We only normally have maximum 8 on board but typically only 4 so not really concerned about reduced seating.

Is this non factory ballast setup ok for the SAN or are there better choices?
Is the skiing speed wake ok on this hull?

Disregard the price. Yes, we pay a lot for boats in Australia.

I am not familiar with that specific boat, but judging by the pictures, you've got a great boat there. The gauges have already been replaced with the correct replacement parts, so you don't need to worry about those failing. I also see that it has the APEX engine option. That's kind of rare, and is generally considered to be a good option. The whole boat appears to be in great condition!

The only major item missing appears to be PerfectPass.

Also, can anyone confirm this is actually a 2001 as I believe the rear hatch was a 3 section from 2001 onwards??

Ahhhhh!! Sorry. I got my years wrong. The advert says 2000. Not sure why I came up with 2001. Its 2am here so hopefully that explains it.

Looks like a very nice and clean boat. Since the gauges have been replaced the hour meter is likely not be reading correctly. Since it is the Apex motor you might be able to read the hours from the ECM with a scan tool but I am not sure on that.

The factory ballast system would have used small tanks instead of those bags. Most all would agree that switching to bags is an improvement. You can get more weight in there, you have more storage and engine maintenance is easier when they are empty.

The ski wake is just ok on this boat but it will probably be a nice improvement over your stern drive.

Shawn is correct, you can plug the Apex motor into your laptop and get a full printout of total hours as well as hours within various rpm ranges. Gives you a good idea of how much the boat say idling. For example, I bought my boat with 950 hours. The computer indicated that a very large percentage of those hours were at idle rpm.
