Whats the price associated with Hours on a used 210?

Hello all, From the helpful information from my previous post I have narrowed my search down to a 2012 210 TE or newer. The kicker was that I'm very interested in the NSS option or the ability to add the option. So researching the available used boats I see a narrow price range when equivalent "option loaded" boats are compared. My question now would be- How much value do hrs have on price? For example netting out all options so the boats are the same it seems that a 2012 210 with 200 hrs is priced $6k below a model with say 50 hrs ($40/hr). What is the breaking point for hrs and price (or is there?). Is it worth 6K for 150hrs less on engine.

My usage will be 25-40 hrs a year on the boat and I would imagine I would sell in 4-5 years. So in 5 years I either have a 2012 boat that has 200hrs or 350hrs. Is it still a 6K difference in 5 years?

PLEASE - do not make this a discussion of hrs a marine engine can go or comparison to a truck. I also realize its how well the engine was taken care of with maintenance so lets not go there.

Personally, I would be all over the one with the 200 hours if it meant saving $6K. I certainly don't think 150 hours less on the engine is worth anywhere close to $6K, assuming all options are the same.

I hope the Excaliber hours come close to the 200k+ miles on my Duramax
Seriously, though that's the most subjective question there is, it's all hypotheticals. ALL things equal or close, a boat with lower hours obviously should hold a little more value...but that is certainly not always the case. Desirable color combos that have the bling factor will command more money or will at least be reflected in the asking price even with significantly higher hours.
6k would be my absolute ceiling assuming I am looking at similar units...putting only 40hrs/yr makes it even less of a consideration. In my case, I went with a 06 210 SANTE with 400hrs, there was a 04 210 SANTE for 3k more with 225hrs. I feel good about my decision.
But in the end, it's your money and up to you to set the standard as to what "value" you attach to each attribute: color, options, hours etc.
My advise would be trust YOUR gut, be objective (as you can be) and enjoy the process.
      Good Luck

Thanks, Do you have a number personally a "boat engine hr" is worth to you? Would $3k sway you with everything else equal and I know this is very subjective. For me I like lower hours but I do not have a real good scientific reason for that thought.

Thanks, I'm assuming year, colors and options are the same. Just a straight hrs on engine difference. Your purchase crossed model years also and I have no clue how to account for that. Like you said much of this is a personal preference and I just wanted to see how others think about this.

I wouldn't worry about hours too much and that one with 200 sounds like a good deal. 200 hrs on a 2 year old boat sounds like the exact amount it should have if you ask me. I know lots of boats will have less than that but 100 hrs a summer on a boat is what I typically do and that seems like normal use to me. As long as the maintenance was done at the proper intervals I would not let hours sway my decision much at all. Good luck with your search.

Generally most folks swag a lifespan of a V8 on an inboard wakeboat to be around 3000-4000hrs or more when well maintained.... kinda like 300,000 on a newer V8 pickup.

I think it's all about how it was maintained. It's scary that there are 12 year old Nautiques with only 80 hours on them....I'd be more scared in the lack of running and maintenance than a boat that has 550 hours and maintained meticulously. Obviously, people selling the boat or for resell the lower hours always want to command a higher price.

and 200 hours should begin to show wear if it wasn't kept up. So the 200 hour boat that looks immaculate would tell me the owner took care of things.

interesting question from my point of view.. i bought my used nautique 210 a couple years ago for $53k... with ~50hrs on it... it now has almost 200 hrs on it.... 2 years ago if i could have found the ~ the same boat for $47k I would have gone for the $47k boat... assuming i liked the colors/trailer/stereo/etc the same... I see no wear and tear ... it seems like the same boat to me (p.s. i have OCD when it comes to my boat, so it is always cleaned, stored inside, getting new parts even when not needed, etc... probably like most of the guys on this forum)... guess is what i'm trying to say is, if you like one boat more than the other $6k is not a big deal over the time you'll have the boat... if you like them ~ the same, pick the cheeper one... my magic eight ball says there will not be a $6k difference in 4-5 years just due to 150 hrs...

Lower hours will have value but only if the boat is maintained. That goes without saying. Now if it were me yes the 50 hr boat would prob be worth more to me. It basically to me means a 1yr newer boat which with nautiques yearly price increases means about $5k! And yes in 4 hrs I will pay more for a 5 yr old boat with only 150-200hrs than equal boat with almost 400hrs.

I'll play devil's advocate here. While I agree with everyone here that in your situation I would also go for the cheaper one, that theory doesn't necessarily apply in all situations. For example, I generally put around 120-150 hours on my boat every year (VERY well maintained because I'm OCD). I also try to trade in boats every year. In my case, buying the boat with less hours would make more sense because in a year it would also have around 200 hours. Having said that, I don't think the difference between 50 and 200 hours is worth $6k when you are talking about a 2 year old boat. I would negotiate the price of the more expensive one down and may pay a $1k-$2k premium for it but not much more than that. Either way, you'll be enjoying the summer surfing behind a Nautique!
