Replacing carpet with sea dek

How hard and what is the cost associated with pulling out the carpet and replacing it with sea dek? On a '04 226. Thanks

Does a 04 226 have Snap-In carpet? If it doesn't have Snap-In carpet, then there is unfinished fiberglass under the carpet. The newer boats with Snapin carpet have gelcoat covering the fiberglass. Without a gelcoat floor, then you would probably have to pay someone to remove the carpet and spray gelcoat on the floor. This would be very expensive.

Carpet on the 2004 226 is NOT snap-in, so that means it is glued down to unfinished fiberglass.

In order to replace that with SeaDek, you would need to lay down new gelcoat over the fiberglass, and get it fairly smooth. That's not impossible, but not exactly a fun job. I saw a 196 that someone did that to. Then you'd have to order a pattern kit from SeaDek, make the pattern, and then have them cut the SeaDek to the pattern.

That was the main reason we traded in our 226. I wanted snap in for easy of cleaning. I miss that boat. I love the 226, one of the best riding v drives I've been in.

Replacing carpet with sea dek

Yeah too bad you don't have snap-in carpet, I just did my 08 230 and it was fairly easy. The factory sano pad came off the platform and walkway surprinsingly easily.

Thanks guys! Yeah may do the platform, but prob not worth the hassle of pulling up carpet and gel coating deck. Way too much work!

There might be some sort of stitches in the center or at the corner of the carpet. You can check them first. This will make pulling easier. Yet if you still find difficulties then look here.
