    Single or tandem axle trailer?

Potentially buying a used 210 from a dealer but it needs a trailer. I would be trailering it home roughly 600mi. I would be just trailering around my neighborhood to the boat ramp, approximately 1mi a few times a week, and of course the occasional road trip. The question is should I get a tandem or single axle trailer?

I'm assuming you're talking about a 95-06 210. When I was looking for mine, most of the ones I saw with a single axle trailer were in Florida. I'd get a tandem axle for resale in most places. IMO, a tandem tows better enough than a single axle to make it worth paying more in maintenance and tires.

Thanks! It's an 03. I was leaning towards the tandem, just had a thought to conserve some upfront cost.

You could get by just fine with a single axle. If you are going to keep it for a long time go for the single. If you see yourself selling it in 5 years of less go for the tandem. Tandems are a huge pain where our cabin is located and if you have a cement drive way you are backing it into you will always have tire marks on the drive. But, any buyer is probably going to wish you had a tandem under it.

The tandems look nicer and the redundancy is nice for getting off the side of the highway if you have an issue but a properly setup single axle is definitely up for the task. My boats sits on a 2002 Ramlin single axle and it tracks straight, brakes well and handles great in tight spots.

Thanks for the insight! Still not sure what we will do.

                This.

My 04 on a single axle tows very well, can be moved by hand easily and has lower maintenance costs. I've towed mine from NE Ohio to lake Cumberland KY, Lake Norman NC and Richmond VA area. From a practical standpoint I've never wished for a double axle trailer.

Visually, the dual axel is nicer.

A tandem axle trailer was one of the requirements when I was searching for a used boat.

                    Here's my two cents:

Single trailer for a SAN will have a 5000 lb axle so the weight is not an issue. As others have said the single axle is easier to maneuver, especially in tight spots and will cost less. The tandem will track better towing on the highway. Either way, the key option to get, especially from a resale perspective are: disk brakes, swing tongue, diamond plate side steps, spare tire. To me, those options are more important than whether it's a single or dual axle.

                    Hope this helps,

For someone who has blown apart a tire on the interstate, i will always want a tandem trailer. When that tire blew up on my old boats single axle i thought i was gonna lose the boat.

Double or single, always have a properly inflated spare.

Happened to me as well. Blew a tire on a tandem though and thank goodness it was a tandem. My son and I were about 50 miles from the closest truck stop.

I recommend a tandem for traveling reasons only

A blown tire on a single axle trailer really sucks, happened to me too, 5 minutes away from home when bringing the boat back after the summer. Fully loaded truck/boat with the kids and all. A tandem adds that level of safety and does look a lot cooler. Not that how the toys look are that important to guys with wake/ski boats... ;-)

I love my tandem on the highway, but can't turn it and the driveway ...dad may get tired of storing my boat so I need to find a single. Single wins on cost and manuverabilty, tandem wins on everything else.

FWIW: I have a tandem axle trailer and place the wheels on these dollies for tight maneuvering in my garage.
                              Works great!
