    lead weight

anyone have any good ideas about how to contain some lead weight. i have access to tire weights and need to put them in something that is soft to conform to under seat storage and also clean. i don't want them leaking stuff all the over the place. i was up and down the isles as home depot and came up with nothing but heavy garbage bags. thanks for the help.

Go to Sears tools or other high quality tools store.... And look at their smallest tool bags made out of heavy canvas and those premium HD zippers that won't break under load.

might cost you 20$ or so each... But would be well worth it to do it right once and be done. The smallest tool bags... Approx 1-2 gal? Would equate to 150lbs+ ea or more, so you wouldn't need too many.

the pop lead I bought is a sealed canvas as pouch, 50lbs each, roughly same canvas material. 50-70lbs is about as heavy as I'd want to go if you plan to move them around. 150lbs isn't be moved without possible damage or slipping a disk in your back.

I've known guys who have gone to an Army-Navy surplus store and bought a couple of those heavy duty canvas Tool-Bags to put tire weights in. Very useful in storing the weight and with the strap handles, you can move them around as needed or take them out of the boat when need be.
If you can't do it in, on, or behind a Nautique..... It just ain't worth doing!

Just a thought, water filled ballast does not make our boat less boyant if it gets swamped with water. Lead weight will continue to sink your boat, in the unfortunate event your boat gets swamped.

Use 30" of 2" PVC, cap both ends. The tubes weigh about 50lbs each when filled with tire weights. This way the weights don't get wet, rust, and stain floor, and they are easier to move around to fine tune wake.

Do you have any issues with them rolling around?

+1 on the PVC tubes. This is what I have as well and works great...

PVC def works well, you can go to a tire shop and ask them to save the tire balance weights to use. I have never had a problem with them rolling around in the boat, you can use bungee cords to hold two or more together to prevent it.
