    Insurance Companies?

Who has got the cheapest insurance policies out there? I've been using Boat US for about 5 years and they are raising my premiums this year instead of "Diminishing" as they say. I've had zero claims with them and looking to shop around. Thanks

Seems like many companies are doing that. I know ski safe is a sponsor, but I had to drop them a few years ago. After nearly 20 claim free years with small increases, they wanted to nearly double my premium. Calls to them to ask why were not well received.

We also went with progressive. Our insurance agent is a AAA employee, and that's who he recommended. If you pay the whole year up front, it's was a little cheaper than monthly.

i went with skisafe after hearing how they handled a claim on this site, seems like they have great service. i got a quote and it was half of what i was paying through allstate, with better coverage than allstate.

Also went with Ski Safe for the reason mentioned above.

I think mine was 300ish for the year

There are several threads on this. I started one and maybe never finished because I was out of the country when I did the analysis and got the coverage going.

Short answer...for me, ski safe was the best deal. I don't know that I can say it was "cheapest" but it is a very low number we are talking about.

Longer answer...I had progressive and didn't like it for several reasons. Mainly the hurricane coverage went to crap plus that northeast case where they paid lawyers to defend that man that killed the girl...whatever it was if he was found innocent, progressive didn't have to pay the claim. That was reason enough...plus some others I had.

I bet I shopped 6 to 10. Some...just shopping was a pita. One (I can't remember) actually gave me an online quote...wanted me to sign up...then would be "subject to an increase in cost or decrease in coverage" upon review by the live worker. Some...it was not clear what hurricane coverage was. I went through a whole bunch of them.

The online form for ski safe seemed to be the most credible with the questions it asked. Then I sent a nasty email to them asking wtf they not contact me and the politely asked me to check me spam folder. Shazam...two or three days later I paid online w/my credit card and started coverage. I was able to delay coverage start until I needed it. I also sent them photos of the condition of my boat for record. They liked that.

I dealt with one or two people there by email from another continent (me on the other continent) and it was so painless.

One suggestion...they have several layers of coverage that have less exclusions as you go up in premium. Be sure to select the most expensive...unless you are going for liability only. The most expensive was like 150 or 200 more and eliminated many exclusions. If you go read your current policy, you will be amazed at the number of scenarios not covered.

edit: ski safe storm coverage wasn't where I wanted to be but it was a lot closer to what I wanted than the others had.

There are so many factors to consider when shopping insurance it is hard to compare each person's situation to another and the best choice for one certainly is not the best for the next. We use SAFECO for all of our insurance needs. We have two cars, three houses and a boat with them. We switched from Farmers earlier this year because their premiums were a little less and the way they grouped their billing worked better for us. With Farmers I really could not tell how much I was paying for what and some was auto drafted from our account and some was paid in full by check every year and it just got frustrating. So switching helped us reconcile everything into one simple, pain free billing. Well, not really pain free because of the cost to insure all this stuff, but as easy as it can be.

I have never had a claim on any policy, house, boat or car so I cannot speak on the ease of the claim process for any insurance company and I hope that remains the case for a long time.

last time I shopped BOATERS Insurance....Not to be confused with BOAT US..... was the best coverage and rates by a mile.

not all companies will cover a 550hp.

have had Global Marine for several years now and have been very happy with them coverage and premium wise ... haven't had to file a claim yet, but based on their general professionalism i'm not concerned should i ever need to.

I look at insurance as....total cost and total coverage. I had several quotes and ski safe was among the cheapest..saying that I still opted for a company with slightly higher premiums..less than $15o more/yr but liability coverage of over 6 million. Some discount insurance only had 100k liability limit which was not in my opinion enough in today's litigious world. Especially given the nature of activities a boat is used for (no I'm not referring to alcohol).
