    1980 ski nautique barn find!!!

Hey guys. Been scanning the site for a while but finally posting something. Long story short my family has always nautique boats. I started kneeboarding at age 3 and progressed to slalom ski and now wake boarding and wake surfing. My grandfather has a 1999 ski nautique and my uncle has a brand new supercharged G25 (pure awesomeness!)

I found a 1980 ski nautique in the barn of the guy I rent my house from. He says a guy needed a place to store it for a little while, that was 12 years ago. My landlord says the boat is mine if I want it and he would really like to see it running and being used. Hull is is good shape, stringers are solid and interior is fair but missing the floor piece. Other than that I don't know anything about the motor and trans other than it was running when it was parked. My goal for now is to get the boat cleaned and running before I start investing money in restoration.

My question for everyone on here is where do I begin? Flushing and changing all fluids (engine oil, trans fluid) cleaning fuel tank and fuel system to get old gas out(carb and fuel pump cleaned)? Replacing water pump impeller? Steering is tight and probably needs to be lubricated. Suggestions on cleaning mildew off of hull and interior without damaging it?

Thanks in advance for the help!!

Get her cleaned up. New fluids, impeller, etc... I would take some marvel mystery oil in a squirt bottle and spray some in each spark plug hole. Let it soak a little and then motor the engine over by hand if you can. Shoot a pic of the engine if you can. Great find.

      Exactly.

Funny thing is....those seats are probably going to clean up nicely and be suitable for the showroom.

But as soon as you sit on them, they're going to crack to pieces LOL. Maybe not....at least they weren't in the direct sun.

+1 I wouldn't do anything until you have verified ownership of the boat. The landowner telling you it's yours isn't going to hold up. Not his to give away legally.

anyway, nice boat. Seats look look to have been reskinned. I don't think that is original vinyl.

Diamond in the rough. Looks largely unmolested aside from the skins like Brett said. Make sure you have the owner of the building apply for a mechanics lean on the title work so he has full rights to give it to you if need be. I would probably do that without contacting the original owner because once he remembers he has a boat someone might want the story is likely to change.

No I don't have a title but my landlord owns a mechanics shop so it will not be hard to put a lien on the title.

You should draft up some kind of invoice charging the landloard to haul it off. Then you can start acrruing storage fee against the P.O.

The landloard also needs to draft up an invoice for storage to date and have it ready for the P.O.

when the p.o. sees the amount he owes,....he'll let it go.

Who knows....the guy may be dead for all we know.

The trouble may come though, when you go to get your state sticker and maybe plates for the trailer.

Start working on the title. But if it was me, I'd also start cleaning. Just because I'd be so excited.

Yeah I can't resist not starting to work on it!! Currently out of town working but going to start as soon as I get home. Going to wash it then working on getting it running first and foremost.
