Your vid shows exactly what I'm talking about. Put another 1500 in it plus 4-5 people and it only gets worse. That doesn't happen in a Sport or SAN. It doesn't even happen on a 2001 hull. The wake just gets bigger but stays clean.

PS - please don't confuse hate with the truth. The OP came here for advice and his primary objective is for wake boarding and surfing. I'd be pretty disappointed if I just laid down $10k for a boat only to find out that it wasn't what I was looking for. And I don't see what 14 years has to do with anything. But a good memory of a bad boat wake for wake boarding.

I have no experience with the Excels, but the hull and wake appear to be very similar to the direct drive Barefoot Nautique that preceded it in CC's lineup- and I've got plenty of experience with those. My experience lines up with Bert's... it is next to impossible to get the lip to clean up at trick speeds, which is similar to wakeboard speeds. Heck, its even hard to get the lip to clean up at barefoot speeds. Havent tried surfing, but all accounts are that its lousy for that too... some friends tried surfing a 23' v-hull Fish Nautique a few years ago and they couldnt get a wave out of it either. We love our BFN, but for footing and cruising... there are much better all around boats, and better sport specific boats if youre into the wake stuff too, IMHO.

Regarding what bhectus originally said, I've never read a more false statement on this forum than this one. Did you bump your head bhectus??? To the OP: I owned a 1991 BFN for three years and loved it. The wakeboarding wake was big, clean and awesome. The BFN/Excel is the most underrated sleeper of a wake boat per dollar in existence bar none. I'm speaking solely about the V-drive versions. I sold mine with a tower and stereo for $18,500 with 460 hours and the upholstry had some tears. If you can find one for 10k that only needs interior, you're doing great. If this one is beat with high hours, keep looking. They're out there. FWIW, I would favor a BFN over an Excel because of the added weight/power you get with that big block and you still have a very fuel efficient boat.

I'm bumping it right now trying to figure out what you're smoking. Apparently you live in the land of Honalee with Puff the Magic Dragon and grkero. At least he was nice enough to post up that informative video proving just how awful the wake is. Not only is it washed out, but it's also small! Again, it's the deep V of those boats. But maybe yours was just "special". Like you.

Is that the best you have for me? I'm disappointed. But then again not surprised coming from an obviously young punk novice wakeboarder that thinks the Excel has an awesome wake. I'm done with you and this thread. Keep on with your aggggro Excel dude.

Young punk? I'm 46 with kids in college so that's the first one of your assumptions that proves your lack of brains and a propensity to talk when you know nothing. (can't stand people like that) The second is that you assume I own an Excel. I bought a 2005 SAN new in 2005 to replace my 1991 BFN. I actually owned the BFN for four years (and loved it) so I think I know a little about it-unlike you who rode in one 14 years ago and want to act like you're the leading authority on Excels/BFN's. In 9 years of reading this forum, I have rarely been involved in any threads other than to compliment people but when I read the tripe you were spewing about a boat that I not only owned and know very well but, think is the best V-Drive Nautique bargain ever to exist, I had to comment. You also said that a sport nautique (direct drive) has a better wakeboarding wake? That's laughable. You have never addressed one of the OP's questions. All he wanted to know was if the price of the boat he was interested in was priced well enough. He never asked you or anyone else if he should look at a different boat or anything like that. You just took it upon yourself to bash on a boat that many people know is an awesome boat for the money-except you. You sir, have not been even slightly helpful to the OP. You just wanted to spout off and feel important as though you have some sort of old man wisdom. Total troll.

Can't we all just get along?

I actually boarded quite a bit behind a buddies Excel back in the mid to late 90's, and I remember it having a decent wake for us intermediate's. I would not say the wake is washed out, just a little white water isn't a big deal IMO.... I won't be doing any speedballs or hoochie to fakies, so I don't need a 100k wake.
I currently have a 1991 excel (454) and although I have not surfed it, I did play around with speeds and weight and it actually looked liked it would make a decent wave with a little push. I am sure it's no 230, or SAN - but if I can get a little ride out of it, great! I also had a 2005 SAN and although it made a nice wake, it was super sensitive with side to side weight. It also did make a good surf wave, but as stated, you had to almost bury the desired side.
                  Best of luck to all!

^^^ Wow, I've never heard of an Excel with a 454. Is it a V-Drive? Playpen bow?

I won't even address your personal insults, but I will address this and make it very simple for you. How many professional wakeboarders from the 90's did you ever see riding behind an Excel or v-drive BFN? Which boat basically jumpstarted the wakeboarding craze? The Sport Nautique. It is very well documented. I didn't help the OP? How about I helped him understand that an Excel wasn't going to be a good wakeboarding or surf boat? After all that is his primary use for the boat. You claim to know so much about a boat that you've owned yet you didn't even know that the Excel had a 454 option. Is it a v-drive? Umm, Excels only came as v-drives. It also had a playpen bow option. Take the blinders off. Life is much more enjoyable without them.

I'm pretty sure the Excels and BFNs were discontinued well before there were any wakeboarding contests and it makes sense that CC would push what they were building at the time. Isn't that why a builder sponsors a contest? The OP never mentions surfing. You just pulled that out of your rear end without being asked. The fact that I asked about a 454/OB option on the Excel is irrelevant. I owned a BFN with the big block. And btw, you've STILL not answered a single thing that the OP asked but you've sure done a good job bashing and trolling. Yeah, you're a real sweetheart.

Before you stick your foot in your big mouth again, maybe you should do a little more research. He also posted on CCFan so I already knew what he was looking for. Pay attention to my first post on THIS thread where I specifically mentioned answering his post there. Again, your blinders are blocking your apparently very blurry vision.

Didn't you say a few posts back that you were "done with this thread"? Was that just for dramatic effect?
