    Nautique future developments?

    Hi guys,
I wanted to open this new thread as I wanted to know your opinion about where Correct Craft could do in order to improve the current wakeboard/surf machines.
As far as I see it, Nautique has almost developed/incorporated all the wakeboarding tools (range, hulls, ballast, nss, tower, camera, speed control.....) at the maximum level, so I cannot foresee any pending improvements.

Do you miss anything other brands have? should they be working on this or that technology?

    My opinion is:
They could work on fuel consumption

At some point in the near future these major tow boat manufacturers are going to need to put a diesel engine in.

When you need a 550hp gasser to move these suckers i think it is quite obvious that a high torque v6 diesel could get the job done more efficiently.

Yeah diesel motor for sure would be a cool option. If not a diesel option perhaps a multi speed tranny.

I could see them going with a gravity ballast also. Being the G series already has a semi rigid lined tank that would be awesome to have.

I would like to see 1-2 knob 20-30second winterization. No tools, done at the ramp.

long flexible 2-3ft screw... That when turned drains exhaust, tranny, water pump etc etc.

        sea ray already uses this.

Love diesels and love the idea of boT diesels... Never seen a marina (in lake) carry it. That's going to be a hurdle.

          Love quick and easy winterization.

I set up a quick drain system on my G with about $20 worth of common hardware. But it would be nice if it came with a similar system.

A Cats like system to adjust the wake at speed wiuld also be nice. Works exceptionally well on the Centurions.

Lastly, a CV transmission would improve fuel economy.

I know they had the all electric boat a while back, but not really practicle for run time reasons. What about a hybrid of sorts, similar to the Chevy Volt with a gas powered generator for electric motors?

I can not guess of what could be coming next. I mean, who, 5-10 years ago, would have thought they would add extending plates to the dransom to increase drag for surfing? I think it has a lot to do with how the sports progress.

                They actually had two of those -- a 196 and a 230.

Mastercraft offered a diesel engine a few years back, and it was a fantastic power plant. It failed to gain momentum due to the added cost, which was around $18k at the time in the Prostar. Tige offered a hybrid recently, but I'm not sure it's still available?

Materials all around. Lighter, stronger, longer lasting.

Look at the Pavati boats, the 2015 F150s, now 1000bs lighter using aluminum. Lets shave 2000lbs off and have a 5000lb G23.

Nautique needs major help in tower racks.... hopefully they can improve them significantly without them becoming $3k a pair like MC's or the new $3k PTMs found on Malibus. I wish surf pockets on the current bimini were an OEM option. I would like to see 3 slots on each rack, only 2 racks.

Build the towers knowing 90% of folks will put a set of Rev10s, or the new JL 8.8s... and spec it for folks up to 6'2" without bumping their heads....vs building a tower and cramming speakers in afterthought. build the towers knowing folks will add a 8-10" speaker up in the corners.

Pivot and fold up swim platform for storage....vs the current full removal setup. Just pull pins, lift and lock it in the up position.

2-3x the oil resevoir, perhaps additional filtering... to allow 125hr oil change intervals. Truly 1x a season for 99% of folks.

200amp alternators as an option.... or perhaps use 2 of the existing 120amp alternators in a twin setup. Stereo, ballast pumps and blower running I loose 1-2 volts WITH the engine running.

Reliability and QAQC. Nautique/PCM leads the pack.... but can truly make headway here using the Toyota/Honda Taguchi Loss approach in Operational Research in the manf process... set a realistic goal for not a single defect or failure for X years. We know like 80% of Hondas/Toyotas will be consistently defect free for around 200,000 miles, and the car stands a great chance to hit 400,000 miles reasonably maintained. Lets get there on wakeboats 3 years/300hrs, not a single defect, 20-25yrs without major repairs.

Engine Octanes. Need 400, 450 and 500hp engines that run well and thrive on 87oct with 10% ethanol. And does well on it over 20yrs, without need to additives except for winter layup. we shouldnt be worried and spaz'd out over putting regular cheap gas in our boats. You all know what I am talking about.

Double ballast pumps on all tanks, for 1/2 the fill and drain times, and build in redundancy in the event of a pump failure. That's be $1000 well spent.

I love these types of threads. There are so many great ideas that come out. How about seat coverings that are virtually maintenance free. Mold, mildew, UV, and dirt resistant plus will never rip. We now have cars that will stop or slow down when they get too close to other cars. Can we do something similar with boats?

Also, how about a boat that has a G-wake, but without a lot of the creature comforts that come with a current G series boat. Have it come without any stereo components so you can customize it yourself without paying initial stock stereo cost. Regular gauges without the LED screen. Basically, make it G-series wake performance but a little more affordable for the people that just want to get out and ride a world class wake. I know a lot of the features are what sets Nautique apart from other manufacturers, but just brainstorming here.

The problem with warranties/defects, is too many people treat these 100k boats like an offroad vehicle, when they should be treated like a ferrari. This is where improvments in materials could come in to play though.

All PCM engines run fine on 87, except the 550 (which PCM will be lowering octane requirements to 90/91) The problem with ethanol is that it attracts moisture, and since most people don't use their boat as much as a car, it tends to harm injectors. Leaving ethanol gas sitting in a boat without running it for a while is bad, but as long as you use your boat a few times a week, ethanol gas wont harm it. However, E15 or higher and you will probably blow your engine.

Definitely second the improved ballast pumps, especially the G series. I personally don't mind the 8.5 minutes to fill/drain, but it shouldnt be hard to fit larger pumps and hoses in there. Other models need better access to ballast pumps and their impellers.

Won't happen ever. Nautique is a premium brand, always has been, always will be. That's been beat to death and actually tried a few times without much success. Some of the mystique of owning a Nautique is that not everyone can afford one and that's another thing that keeps the used market large and in charge. I would like to own a new 200 but even if it were completely stripped down I couldn't afford the payments.

optional seat covers like those primal seat (towel) covers.

Some type of manual empty options for ballast in case pumps/battery's/electrical failure and you are fully loaded.
