    Buying used 230 questions

I have a 2004 san and I just need more room for people and storage so I am between 2 boats similar color. I need a boat that has a tower that I can fold fairly easy to fit in the boat lift considering the 230 is much taller. I found a 08 with the 409 catanium with only 100hrs with the tower that hat breaks in the middle and folds back. It also has an upgraded stereo. The boat appears to be in good shape for 57k. I also found an 09 with the new style fold forward tower and the z5 bimini with the 409 that has 600 hrs fully decked out as well in almost perfect condition fro the same price. If I get the 09 they will take mine as a trade where the 08 I need to sell mine first.

Wow that's a difficult question! I'm always for the lower hour boat myself! But I do like the newer style tower better! I also think on the 09 the rear lift access was changed for the better but I could be wrong on that somebody else needs to chime in. Whatever you do make sure you demo both boats to see if you like the wakes that they produce at your weighted speed

If it was me I'd lean more towards lower hrs but Both boats seem to me about five grand too high.

Be careful with what height you need to get into your garage. I had and 09 and had to stay with the Titan tower because the new style would not fold low enough to fit into an 8' door opening

How would the wake be different between an 08 and 09 230? The hull is the same right?

I love the new tower but that is a big difference in hours. I guess part of the question is how long you plan to keep it and how many hours you plan to put on per season? If you plan to sell in 2 or 3 years and put on +/- 100 hrs a season I'd get the low hour boat because that will probably be more sellable in the near term. If you plan to keep it for a while then I wouldn't worry about the hours if it was well maintained and I'd get the one you like better. I'm just thinking an 09 with 800-900 hours in 2 or 3 years might be a lot tougher sell than an 08 with 3 or 400 hours regardless of tower and year.

I have a 2010 230 with the Fc3 tower and the z5 bimini. With the z5 it's hard to get the tower down, the bimini gets in the way from folding the tower all the way down. It caused me some issues getting under the one low bridge on our lake (3" of clearance is all I can get) so we tend to stay on the other side of the lake.

I would also agree with the above posters asking how long your going to keep the boat. Hours might play a factor if your don't plan on keeping it very long.

Are you sure on that? I could have sworn the new towers fold under 8'?

And Kelley what I meant is do a water test just to be sure to shake out any issues the boats may have. But your correct he shouldn't see any difference in the wakes between them. But for sure he needs to weight them and ride them.

Both are plumed with the extra ballast 750s in the rear and under the front seats my boat has a lift and my prop on high tide may get splashed by water when boats go by so with the bigger taller boat I am sure I will have to fold down the tower to get everything out of the water. I am at 987 hours on my 210 san now and it has been flawless change oil and change the impeller is all that has been dome mechanical wise. I got the boat with 140hrs in march of 08 I put 20hrs on it so far this year lol. so I put a bunch of hours on a boat quite a few of it cruising late at night @1500- 2000 having boat drinks. I look at my truck with 57,000 miles with 1700 hours. I will keep for some time till the price drops on used g's in a few years
