    steering

I have a 2000 pro air. I took it out for the first time this today and when under power the steering is slightly stiffer to the right. Is this normal because of the rotation of the prop? Im not new to boating but I am new to inboards.

It's not uncommon. Does your rudder have the adjustable tab on the aft side of it?

Looking at rudder from the rear of boat try adjusting it to the right a little and see if that helps.

Adjust the tab to the same side it pulls to

              Pull versus Stiff

Many of the comments are about the boat pulling versus the stiff steering. Use caution this weekend. If you moved the adjustable rudder tab to the right the boat will now pull to the left. Your original post mentioned stiffness versus pulling. I replaced my cable this year due to stiffness in any direction and the new cable was so free the boat pulled really hard to the left. It is so clean and free now that my passenger was in my lap after letting go of the wheel. The adjustable tab was pushed to the right about .5 mm. It really tossed the boat hard if you didn't hang on to the wheel. A little pull to the left is normal and helps keep the boat straight in the slalom course. Basically the rudder is loaded and quicker to respond to your adjustments. I centered mine up an now only have about .1 mm off center and the left pull is safe. It doesn't take much to make the boat pull hard to either side. If you feel the steering stiff I would consider a new cable. Turning to the right is shortening the cable. Your pulling the cable back through the housing. Turning to the left is lengthening the cable or pushing the cable through the housing. It seems that with the few boats I've had the right stiffness appears 1st. My best guess is that pulling the cable through the housing is harder than pushing it due to crud/rust in the cable.

Didn't want you to let go of the wheel after this adjustment and nearly get tossed out of the boat.

Thanks for the heads up I really appreciate it. And the cable thing does make sense. The only weird thing is when your not in motion its not stiff at all. Thats y I didnt think it was the cables.
