1998 SN 196 Pro Boss GT 40 Surging

Can anyone tell me what the proper fuel pressure reading should be for my 98 SN? It's reading 45-46 at idle and under full power. I tested it because the last 3 times out the motor was surging and bogging down. It doesn't stall just runs like crap. Relays are fine, syphon valve is fine, I think this is the correct reading for fuel pumps...? Starting to think it may have just been a bad tank of gas from the marina. Took it out today to test with gauge and ran fine... Any suggestions are greatly appreciated as I'm learning all this on the fly. All other threads about this problem have been a great help, but difference is mine doesn't stall, which leads me to bad gas. Thanks in advance!

Fuel pressure too high, I think. the specification should be in the engine information on the top of the plastic engine cover.

Do you know you can download a PDF version of the GT-40 service manual from this site?

I think that is too high under vacuum. Check to see if your fuel pressure regulator is working. It should show lower pressure when under high vacuum and should ramp up psi when there is little vacuum.

It sounds like you have a bad regulator or a vacuum leak between the intake and the regulator.

If it is bad that will cause idle and driveability issues.

thanks for the heads up on downloading the manual. The high pressure pump should be at 43 psi and the low pressure pump 5-7 psi. Thanks again! Hoping its bad gas!

The manual says 43psi is normal so am i wrong saying 45psi is ok? There are no issues at idle and it doesn't stall. It ran perfect tonight while testing with the fuel pressure regulator. I'll test it again tomorrow. Thank you again, this forum is invaluable and has already saved me almost $1000. Thank you everyone!
