    Battery Question.

    Hi All,

I'm needing to replace the battery on my 1980 Ski Nautique (5.8 V8). I've done a bit of research & been told I need a "group 65" battery. Unfortunately over here in Scotland the local parts dealers don't have a clue what I'm on about.
So I've just taken the plunge & ordered a Varta F18 battery. (800cca)
    http://www.batterymegastore.co.uk/product/F18/

Should this do the job ?

    Thanks in advance

Graham, I would expect youre not going to get any more help here than youre already getting on CCF. I dont know what the UK battery sizing conventions are, but I would imagine the power of google can tell you. The dimensions and post configuration of a Group 65 battery can be found the same way... I suggest comparing them to see if what youve selected will fit in the box.

I would suggest getting the US dimensions of the group 65 battery and then convert dimensions at your local auto shop.

Got a new battery yesterday. Hopefully do the job ok.

started no problem today after 2-3 turns of the key. Was a bit sluggish when warm tho so I'll need to look into that over the weekend.

Replace the starter with a gear reduction unit. They can be found on eBay for cheap. You don't even need a marine unit because these sealed units are spark free by nature.

Did you change the initial timing for any reason?

If the initial timing is too far advanced, it will turn over easy when its cold and hard when its warm.
