    Pond/Lake Scum on hull

Before getting the lift in the water i just had my SN in the water tied to the dock, but now when i lift it out of the water i can see on the hull all the way up to the water line a brown film that just wont come off. Ive tried power washing it to no avail.

Any ideas on how to get rid of this??? Its a white hull and it just doesnt look good at all.

I have a friend that uses a simple mixture of Vinegar and Water....I think he uses about a 25% ratio (vinegar to water). He says it works wonders???

My SN goes in the lake in March and comes out late October. It too gets a brown coating of lake grim on it; it was just cleaned last weekend with an acid based product supplied by my Nautique dealer. They use it, as do I, and it works a treat, the hull comes up like. I'll post the name of the product when I get home this evening.
Just remember to wear protective gloves and goggles and cover up your arms and legs when you apply it..... It does tend to sting a little if you get any splashes on yourself.

I've used Scrub Free Soap Scum Remover with great success. I suggest the non-chlorine variety to keep from harming the gel coat. If you periodically apply the product during the season, the mineral deposits and water scum clean up with very little effort.

        Best of Luck,

my nautique dealer told me they use muratic acid , so that's what i have been using for about two years now , and it does the job. so far it has not done any damage , not even to the decals.

Star Brite-Hull Cleaner. It's basically Oxalic acid, but works amazing on getting the hull 100% spotless. The only thing I hate about the acid, well any cleaning product really, is that you will "need" to re wax the areas you used it on. Furthermore, if your boat is waxed up, remember to only wash it with car wash soap. Normal dish soap will strip the wax.
            How about \"Chales\"?

The one going around on the malibu owners site is 50% "Sno-bowl" toilet bowl cleaner and 50% lysol.
apply with a brush, and let sit for about 30 seconds. Wipe off with pleanty of water. Re-wax.
I had a stain on my hull from before I bought the boat. I tried EVERY product I could find to remove it, and nothing touched it. I even used light cut polishes on parts of it and nothing seemed to help.
This recipe removed it with minimal scrubbing, and the hull looks like new again! In the pic you can see the difference it made!

                  Algae line staining

I have a 1995 196 and was wondering if anybody could recommend how to remove the algae staining at the water line. The boat is in water.

                  Thanks.

                    RE: Algae line staining

mgswed, sorry, I got it wrong... It's actually 50% Lysol Toilet Bowl Cleaner and 50% Hydrogen Peroxide.
Do a search on www.wakesiderides.com for a bunch of others successes with it as well.
                    Don't forget to re-wax!

Simple Green All Purpose Marine Cleaner (I bought a case from the QVC Channel web site.) Just make sure to wax more often using any of these methods.

My dad used the toilet bowl cleaner solution (can't remember
what he mixed with it, but peroxide makes sense) throughout
the 70s. This removed tough saltwater grunge when we left the boat
in for 2 or 3 weeks at a time. Don't recall it ever causing damage to
the hull. As stated above, be sure to wax after cleaning.

This stuff is amazing. I put it in a cup and used a sponge and some gloves. No elbow grease was necessary. Came off after one pass of the sponge. Looks great.

                              Thanks all for the ideas.
