    G23 450 Not Planing

    Hi guys,

Yesterday I rode behind a G23 for the first time, and it was sweet! A friend of mine just purchased it, a 2013 with the 450hp motor. However, we were having difficulty to plane. I ended up only being able to run with 5/8 of the ballast tanks full, and most of the passengers would go to the bow. Even then, it would take a long while to plane. NCRS would also be set to 5, which I believe has the same effect as having the Hydrogate all the way forward? We had 14 people on the boat, although most of them were kids. This is in Southeastern TN, so we are basically at sea level. Also, I don't know what prop is on it, as we never pulled it out of the water.

I felt like a total noob, because I have experience with properly weighting 210s and 230s so that they plane decently, yet I was totally out of my league with this G.

Any advice? Do 450hp G's usually need a re-prop to run full ballast?

    Thanks in advance!

Your friend needs an Acme 2315 asap. That will bring that boat to life.

What prop is on there now?

^ the 2315 will definitely help………but with 14 people (even if some of them are kids) above stock ballast, the 450 wont plane.
That amount of bodies + gear is going to be around 2000lbs…..maybe more. So it’s no surprise that you had to dump ballast to get on the plane.

As ryan said, if it doesn’t have the 2315, get one. Make sure the NCRS is set to Auto deploy as it will automatically drop the plate to zero when coming out of the hole and return to 5 (or whatever the NCRS is set to) once on the plane.
That said, 2000lbs above stock is about the cut-off point for the 450 for the above set up.

That is why most of us that had 450’s went to 550’s……….night and day difference.

Search for a thread by ironj re extra ballast & the 450.

I should add that I'm only referring to the 2013 model with 1.48 tranny...........not the 2014 with the 2.1 tranny.

I had the same problem a few times last year when we were real heavy. Just loaded everybody to front when starting. Then once planed they moved back to wherever they wanted to sleep.

Mid season I upgraded to the ACME 2419 and never had the problem again. It was like a whole new engine. Highly recommend a new prop. The 2315 or 2419. There is a thread on here about the different props and times to plane etc for a 2013 G23 450hp.

have to repeat , and agree with everybody , change of prop, different world, plus the auto..planing might be slow with lots of extra weight but not planing should not ever happen .

Wow, thanks a lot guys! Like I said, not sure on the stock prop on it, but it sounds like it's most likely the 2313. I did find ironj's thread and it sounds like the 2315 is the way to go. Live to surf, does your 2419 vibrate at all?

There was a vibration once when the boat was light as in no ballast. And it was only for a few seconds while getting up to speed.
