    teak needs help(polyurtheane)

    i just bought a used boat and it has polyurthane on the platform how do i get it back to normal thanks

    Sand it off, that's really the only way without some sort of harsh chemical. Teak cleaner and oil it when you are done. You may not get all the poly out of the cracks.

    Poly would be way slippery!!

        Start with 80 or 100 to get the poly off and then finer grits to get the scratch marks from the coarse paper out. I wouldn`t go finer than 150 since you want to leave the grain open to better absorb the teak oil. A random orbital sander will work well as will a 3" wide belt sander. With the belt sander be sure to sand with the grain. Good Luck!!
