    Surf pipe: first ride

I had the surf pipe added during winterization at the end of last season. Today was the first ride with the new set up. It makes such a difference. Not only did I get a speaker quality upgrade as a bonus, but the overall sound quality has been improved. I do not know if the surf pipe is an option or if they are standard on new models but to anyone interested I have a recommended

Is it really worth $800 as an upgrade though? I have been looking at them, but seems kinda pricey for what you get.

Absolutely. If I had to do it over again, there are several things I'd omit from my boat. (Ie tower speakers...I'd outsource my own preference, etc. ). But I wouldn't do without the pipe. From safety perspective, I believe that it is a necessity for surfers, sound is much better(reduced), and I can hear the sound system better while underway.

Don't get me wrong, I love the sound of a finely tuned engine. It's just that I really don't want to lauren to it all day, everyday. (Cool at start up and while idling out, but after that it gets old in a hurry.

I put a FAE on my 2013 when I got it last year and I wouldn't own a boat that I surfed without it. Even at $800 it's a relatively small percentage of the total cost.

No way I'd get another G boat without a surf pipe! My 2013 didn't come with one but as soon as it was an OEM add on I did it. And man is it a WORLD of difference when you are surfing. I know its supposedly "steam" in your face but it does smell a bit and it VERY MUCH freaks people out that don't know what it is when surfing! $800 totally well spent IMHO. I'd give up other things to get the pipe!

I am looking to purchase one for my 05' 226, but am unsure of the mounting brackets. In pictures I have seen steel square stock used, how does it look and perform?
              thx

I believe that you are referring to the fae system.

The install on my G was the OEM pipe. The end result is the same, but the quality and fit-finish is not comparable from FAE setups I've seen.

Yes. No 'steam' and less CO.

As as the driver/owner, a throaty exhaust note is cool while idling out, but beyond that it's just annoying to listen to all day. Now it's the hum of the 6.0 L, the wind, the water being displaced from the boat, the kids/guests, and the tunes. All of which were muted before by the exhaust.
