    Hard tanks

has anyone thought of making their hard tanks (that have been removed)into a fuel caddy. is the material the same as the fuel tank?
i have a gas station here is in pgh that sells non ethanol fuel that is about 30 min away. sure would be nice to mount some dolly wheels and hardware from tsc store to be able to wheel 35-40 gallons to the dock and squeeze the handle.

They are probably between 32 and 33 gallons but they are lumpy and misshapen and clear. You would also have to add a transfer pump, filler, handle and wheels. I don't know what specific plastic is used but based on the proximity to the engine you might be ok. However the gas station will probably attempting to fill an improvised container. For gasoline it should be in a red container and properly labeled and vented and DOT approval would also be high on my list.

Unless you are a pretty big haus 35-40 gallons isn't portable either at around 6.25 pounds per gallon at ~72 degrees, especially if you have to drag it and out of the bed of a truck. I would be more comfortable dealing with a commercial solution.

If you look around you can find units with pumps and wheels for ~14 gallons which would be ~100lbs full starting at just over 100 bucks. It seems like the pumps on the low end are pretty abysmal though. If you want something you can mount in your truck then you definitely want to have one of the handful of DOT approved (special permit) storage/transfer tanks but those go for > 1000 bucks.
