2006 SV-211 Surf set up??

I am looking to try and start surfing behind my 211. I did a search and came up with allot of options but I wanted to see if someone had any personal experience behind these boats. I bought an inland surfer tako and weigh 240lbs. What side of the wake would be best? Will I need more than the stock ballast to let go of the rope?

This was my setup on our old boat which was an '07 SV 211 Team (LH Prop ACME 645) if you have a RH prop things are apt to differ.


In my opinion, you will definitely need more than stock ballast to surf without the towrope.


211 port side surf setup: 350 lb sac on the walk thru and rear port tank full. Belly tank full. Fly High 370 lb. Tube Sac under the passenger seat bench. (that model sac fits there because it is only 10" high. Then, a 350 lb sac on the floor of the bow. Watch for rollers, or the now will get wet. This setup will give plenty of lean (boat lists to port) so if you have more than 2 passengers, you could lighten up on the ballast. The 211 seems to have less freeboard so also be careful turning around to pick up your rider...when he falls, pull back on the throttle, let the wave pass you, then turn ... Otherwise you'll be eating your own roller.

It is embarrassing to admit but I have only had the boat a few weeks I will have to look to see what rotation my prop is.

If you can read the serial / model number on the prop that will make it easy. If it's an ACME, and it ends in an even number it is a RH prop; odd number is LH. LH prop make better surf wake on port side (same side as your walk-thru). So a "normal" stance rider standing on a surf board with toes pointed in -- towards the wake -- would tend to prefer riding on the port side.

I just looked on the prop and it says 13.25 x 16 VR 644. I assume that is a right-hand rotation prop which should surf better on the right side of the boat which is great as I am goofy footed.

Ya you have a righty. All CC V-drives before 05 were RH. In 06 just the 210 got the new PCM V-drive and LH prop. In 07 the rest of the v-drive line up made the switch to LH.

They both will surf equally on the opposite sides in theory. Since you are goofy foot you should definitely be glad you got a RH becasue the starboard wave will form up much easier. Also since the starboard side doesn't have the transom walk through you can fit more weight in the starboard locker.

Yup. So, depending on how the wave shapes up with the sac you fill in the starboard locker, you might also look at finding a sac that would fit into the seat (or the cooler below the seat) that is directly aft of the driver's seat (a beefy pal will suffice, plus a stout driver). I would do this: Take a tape measure and figure out how much volume you have in the rear locker (LxWxH). You can then refer to the Fly High web site and pick a sac that optimally fills that area (dimensions are noted with the sac descriptions) -- my guess is a 400 lb sac will fit, but you should see for yourself. My experience with the 211 is that too much weight aft will make for a washy wave (that is pretty commonly known) and that the 211 wave quality is better with a good distribution of weight both fore and aft.

Weight in the back make the wave stand up and produces the "push" needed to propel the rider. Weight forward will lengthen the "sweet spot" or the pocket formed by the wave, and allow you more room and distance away from the swim platform to ride. Thus, the need for weight placed forward (I used the floor of the bow, and weight below the port side observer's bench). A balance of these two will produce the best quality wave for surfing.

P.S.: drive carefully. To get a fallen rider, put the boat in neutral, bump reverse and let the wave pass you before turning around. It only takes one time to learn the lesson about taking a roller over the bow. I would turn in the direction of my ballast so the boat list is on the inside of the turn.
