    Neutral at high speed

New here, looking for some help. The other day was cruising on the lake in my 87 barefoot nautique. Probably doin 20 and threw it into neutral. It sounded like the transmission was still engaged and (winding up) for lack of better terms. Now the boat idles really high and slams into gear. What did I do?

Can't think of anything that would have happened as a result of putting it in neutral at 20...seems like that would be fairly common.

Carb engine? Check to make sure the carb is closing when in neutral. If it idles fast, it will slam into gear.

You might want to adjust your choke.
