    SV-211 Creates "Excessive Wake"!

My Marina that I live in is trying to ban my boat from operating inside the marina due to it creating an "excessive wake". I have tried to explain to them that the SV-211 is a USAWS Class C tournament approved boat. When the boat is in slalom mode, and with no additional weight, the wake is not excessive. But, because the boat is green and has a tower it is perceived as a "wakeboard" boat and is considered to be "trouble".

What cracks me up is that the Marina allows fishing boats like the Bayliner to pull tubes and wakeboarders. Why don't they get harassed, their wakes are larger than mine?

Any suggestions on how to deal with this?

Yea, you're right, it is a personality conflict, which is exactly why this is a problem. I refuse to Pucker-Up and Kiss A$$ just because I'm not part of the old retired club. The marina is private, and I pay yearly dues just like everyone else. I am more responsible and rule abiding than your average marina user. I am more than polite and I will be respectful up until the point that I am being disrespected and walked-over.

In any case, the real question is does the SV-211 create an excessive wake when in slalom mode and un-weighted? This is an important question. If this boat earns a reputation of being a wake monster, it may get the thumbs-down by marina and waterway officials in wake sensitive locations.

it is really sorry where perception is reality...

you have a few strikes againest you in the perception arena...

        - you have a really nice boat which some people be a tad jealous of
        - chances are if your boat has a tower then it is percieved as a wakeboaridng boat....and we all know boats with towers have big wakes...
        - the 211 doesnt have a big wake in the ski mode @ 33mph-35mph

i would venture to guess there have some personal / local / personality politics that are major factors.....is there someone local who is well respected that would vouch for you ?

i kinda like the traditional hawain method of handling dispute... discuss the issue sober then drunk then make a decision..

        a big mahalo...

Do you ever use it with the gate up?

Do you have tanks, and fill them?

Do you add extra weight, and carry lots of people?

Has somebody else done any of the above mentioned items?

If yes to even one of these you might have a long and hard battle ahead of you. I wish you the best of luck. I would not stress that "when the gate is up it has a small wake", but that your wake is comparable (in size not quality) to the bayliners regardless of what features it has.

            ag4ever,

I do not do any of the things you mentioned. I have had complaints of an "excessive wake" when it's just my wife driving me (no third required here) and with no ballasts and hydrogate in Slalom mode and 1/2 tank of gas and going 20 m.p.h. The question is, was my boat creating an excessive wake while in the above configuration?

I know there is a wake created (obviously), but is the wake that much larger than other boats? I agree, quality of wake is a different issue and shouldn't be brought up.

              Hmmm,

I would have to say that my 211 puts out a pretty good size wake at 20mph regardless of crew and wakeplate position. They slalom dynamics of the hull do not kick in until 25+ mph, unfortunately for you this is by design. Make sure your wife does not power turn, the 211 can kick up quite a roller in a power turn.

Are you wakeboarding at this speed? If yes, try kicking the speed up to 22 or 23 and learn how to ollie at the top of the wake, the wake will be harder and you might even be able to get higher off the smaller wake.

You may need to reconsider your position not kissing up, if you can't beat them join them.

              Best wishes!

I think if you're standing on the beach or dock and watchting rollers come into the moored boats, you'd have a hard time differentiating between a 197, 211, 210, X-Star or any 21', 3000 lbs boat going 20mph, including center console fishing boats and bass boats!

I think it's all political and needs to handled diplomatically. That said, driver etiquette may play a major role in your success. Good luck.

This is exactly what I think, and this is what the big fuss is all about. Believe me when I say that I follow all of the rules and am responsible. This issue is clearly the "wakeboarding" boat and it's "wakeboarding" wake.

I think my boat is like the red Ferrari, it just looks like trouble. I remember once I was yelled at for making a wake by some guy out on his dock. I was going less than 3 m.p.h. and at idle! I swear to God, it was a total joke! Here I was with my wife doing a sunset cruise and I get yelled at. If I was in a Bayliner with some outriggers and poles on the back I don't think I would of had the same problem. Attitudes are contagious, and I think that the Marina Management is setting an example to everyone who lives on the marina that it is O.K. to discriminate against wakeboarders and wakeboard boats (or what they percieve as a wakeboard boat).

Yo Brice, I heard you left CCC. Wassup with that man, you were Da'Man!

The boat is awsome, I'm totally stoked! Too bad there's so much drama about the evil SV-211 wakeboard boat!

Oh well, I'm still having fun (for now). It's gonna be a trip to see what happens at the next Board of Directors meeting!
