    Confession

I have always drove by people surfing in a bit of disgust when looking for smooth water to ski in. I don't disagree with the sport, have just never understood the infatuation of standing on a board behind a boat. Then I gave it a try...

Ridiculously addictive! Not even the boat driving award we got for being out too late ruined the night.

As a dock owner the large wakes have always been a nuisance but being on a public lake who am I to complain. Now after having done it I completely get why the industry is moving that way. Now all the industry needs to do is educate drivers to be responsible boat owners and aware of what they are operating around. Guess I will start my search for a 210!

We can't get rid of all the idiots on public lakes but we can sure try to make them smarter.

The industry is moving that way, because the industry can convince you that you need a $130 K boat to do it.

I loved it (surfing) at first. But I did not develop a passion for it like I have for wakeboarding. But, to each their own. The thing about wakeboarding is that if you want to wakeboard and get better and better at it, you have to face facts you are going to get hurt. You are going to catch edges and go down hard, potentially get concussions. You are going to potentially wreck your knees.

I just this season starting landing tantrums, which is my first invert. And it is soooooooooooooo gratifying. But the "yank elbow" sucks, really bad. (Off topic but advice appreciated.)

You can get better and better at surfing without getting hurt. Big difference.

          Surfing looks fun...for a bit.

I still find joy in the hissing of the slalom ski as it rolls into the turn and I start yet another tug of war with a 300HP v8 while I'm slingshot across the wake just to do it one more time.

          Speed and power baby!

Oh don't get me wrong, my first run every morning at the lake will continue to be slalom. Working on progressing to a shorter faster ski on the water. I can't slalom all day though =\ lake gets a bit busy. I just learned to do so behind a I/O so not bothered by a less than perfect wake.

I couldn't agree more. My brother and I call surfing "low impact extreme" works for us. Wake board still is great before the water gets rough but my progress has slowed in the last few years.

Surfing is an old mans dream no impact and still fun. That being said I see a lot of surfing in the back of the ski cove . I don't know if its ignorance or just rude you Don't need butter to surf. We do it after the water is screwed by tubers ,cruisers and power turners. We head to the main channel where the wave dosnt bother anyone.

We typically head out early to wakeboard before everyone else is out. Once the crowds are all over the lake, time to surf!!

Thats my process as well. We typically get out for the morning glass at dawn and by 8 or so you have to be skilled, dedicated, or working inside the wake if you are still on a wakeboard. I usually go last so I can pretty much guarantee my second set will be on a surf board, and if its a full boat sometimes my first or I cut it real short. I look forward to late Oct. through March where the jetskis and fair weather boats are put up and I only have to deal with big cabin cruisers and fisherman.

                        We do the same.

Multiple knee surgeries for myself have toned down my wakeboarding, but my children are progressing on their wakeboards.

We slalom early am, then wakeboard, then flip over to surf. Burning gas = fun.

Yep, burning up dead dinosaurs with a boat is what makes summers zoom by way too quick around here!!

I agree. I surfed for three years now and my wife wouldn't do it. Last weekend it was too busy so I surfed. I talked her into it and now she's hooked
